A Letter to the University President about the Canteen Service on Campus
January 12th, 2002
Dear Mr. President,
My name is Li Ming, a junior student from the Department of Psychology. I am writing this letter to put forward some opinions about the Canteen Service on Campus.
The canteen service seems to be getting worse and worse ever since last semester. The past semester has witnessed a sharp increase in the price of an ordinary vegetable dish from RMB 1.5 to RMB 3.5，while the food quantity has been on the decline. In addition, the dining hall is too small to hold the increasing number of students and teaching staff. What is worse，the waiters and waitresses are so indifferent that they would rather stand still than help the diners.
Dining hall is connected with the daily life of every student on campus. I hope you can help to restore our confidence in the canteen service.

第二段:开门见山指出食堂的状况越来越不好，而后“一句话” 数例支持，表达出食堂的价格在上涨，紧接着分别从环境(too small to hold the increasing number of students and teaching staff)和月艮务(the waiters and waitresses are so indifferent and cold)两方面展开，支持段落中心。
第三段:提出希望，也就是写信的真正目的。
第四、五段:希望得到回复和问候语,正常表达交际功能。
