Introduction：Close your eyes and try to think back a long, long time. Can you imagine a long, long time ago when there was no sun, no trees, no grass, no people？What was there before all those things？God’s Word tells us!Presentation：Genesis 1：1 “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.”

Explanation：Genesis means “beginning”. This verse is found in the very first chapter of the very first book of God’s Word, the Bible. “In the beginning God...” Does that mean God had a beginning？No, there has never been a time when there was not God, and there will never be a time when there is not God. Although that is hard for us to understand because we live within the limits of time, yet it is true that God always was and will be. Our verse is talking about the beginning of the heaven and earth, when God began to create the things in our universe.

Application：If you know the Lord Jesus, you are God’s child, and He wants you to know the truth about how life in this world began. That’s why God was careful to have the true story of His creation put at the very beginning of the Bible. There are many people, even some who are very educated, who do not want to believe God, so they make up their own ideas of how life and the world began. Those stories sound very good, but we have to choose whether we will believe God, Who was there at creation, or whether we will believe people who were not there and do not believe God’s Word. Most of the world’s greatest scientists have all believed the Bible and God’s account of creation.
