This European indivisibility, despite all the continent's difficulties, makes it inevitable that new members like Poland will tend to seek shared Eruopean positions, whatever their strong American sympathies. At the same time, these institutional differences complicate trans-Atlantic understanding because a sovereign America run by an administration for which power is the coin of the realm faces Eruopean states that have put their faith in international institutions like the European Union or the United Nations or an international criminal court.
But a lot is at stake in trying to overcome the current crisis of confidence. Between them, the European Union and the United States account for 40 percent of world trade. They are each other's largest trading partners. Business transactions between them run at close to $3 billion a day.

1、请注意其中第二句的译法。“原译”太死板，“改译”较为灵活。the coin of the realm原义为国家的法定货币，简称法币，coin是硬币，realm是国土、领域，这个短语在这里译为“至高无上”。
2、"But a lot is at atake in trying to overcome the current crisis of confidence."“原译”是个明显的错误。错就错在对“a lot is at state”的理解上。
“at stake”在《英汉大词典》的解释是“在危急关头、在危险中”；《英语习语大词典》的解释是“在危险中、处于成败（存亡、输赢）关头”；《综合英语成语词典》的解释是“有丧失的危险、存亡攸关、关系重大”，并举了个例子：The team played hard because the championship was at stake.这只球队打得非常卖力，因为冠军赛已经进入决定性阶段。
