The east wind blows, at Red Tower trees burst in bloom;
东风吹绽红亭树,
Alone on hilltop at sunset I fall in gloom.
独上高原愁日暮。
I'm grieved to see the dust under the horsehoof rise
可怜骊马蹄下尘,
And turn into a mist before wayfarers' eyes.
吹作游人眼中雾。
Below blue hills the sun is sinking by and by;
青山渐高日渐低,
A frozen bird in dreary garden gives a cry.
荒园冻雀一声啼。
By roadside sinks the monument of ancient day;
三归台畔古碑没,
Before the hero's tomb e'en the stone horse would neigh.
项羽坟头石马嘶。
