Lu Zhi (1235-1314) styled Chudao or Zilao, also known by his literary name Shuzhai or Songweng. Lu was born in Zhuojun (today's Zhuo County of Heber Province). He was known by his contemporaries for both his poetry and prose writing. His book A Collection of Shuzhai has been lost. In his own time Lu's name was paralleled with that of Yao Sui for the polish of their Sanqu poetry. However Lu was the better one in this respect both in terms of the actual achievement or the influence on the age. He was good at depicting country life and giving expressions to his meditations on the past in a fresh, fluent, natural, and lively style.

Recall at Night to the tune of Life-giving Sun
寿阳曲·夜忆
Out, out is the candle soon,
灯将灭,
Grief of separation shines under the waning moon,
人睡些,
By the window his snore is slight,
照离愁半窗残月。
How cruel is he with an iron-clad heart,
多情直恁的心似铁,
Blind to this fine day and fair night.
辜负了好天良夜。
