Lu Zhi (1235-1314) styled Chudao or Zilao, also known by his literary name Shuzhai or Songweng. Lu was born in Zhuojun (today's Zhuo County of Heber Province). He was known by his contemporaries for both his poetry and prose writing. His book A Collection of Shuzhai has been lost. In his own time Lu's name was paralleled with that of Yao Sui for the polish of their Sanqu poetry. However Lu was the better one in this respect both in terms of the actual achievement or the influence on the age. He was good at depicting country life and giving expressions to his meditations on the past in a fresh, fluent, natural, and lively style.

Untitled (1) to the tune of Pleasure in Front of the Hall
Like an idler I behave,
And wash out the dust of fame and gain in the vast wave.
From the capital nearby turning my head away,
Content with my lot and poverty as a play.
Who would mind and care
Even if no socks or a turban I wear?
Nothing disturbs the peace of my mind.
Mists and clouds are my companions kind,
Wind and moon to be neighbors I find.
