Lu Zhi (1235-1314) styled Chudao or Zilao, also known by his literary name Shuzhai or Songweng. Lu was born in Zhuojun (today's Zhuo County of Heber Province). He was known by his contemporaries for both his poetry and prose writing. His book A Collection of Shuzhai has been lost. In his own time Lu's name was paralleled with that of Yao Sui for the polish of their Sanqu poetry. However Lu was the better one in this respect both in terms of the actual achievement or the influence on the age. He was good at depicting country life and giving expressions to his meditations on the past in a fresh, fluent, natural, and lively style.

Balmy is the wine in the cup tan,
酒杯浓,
A calabash of spring inebriates the mountain old man.
一葫芦春色醉山翁,
The liquor in the calabash presses on branches and the flower.
一葫芦酒压花梢重。
Follow me, my boy, this hour.
随我奚童,
The calabash is dry,
葫芦干,
My tipsy footing does not die,
兴不穷,
But who drinks with me today?
谁人共?
Only green mountains accompany me on the way.
一带青山送,
I am like Lie Zi the immortal who rode the wind.

I am Lie Zi the immortal now riding the wind.
