Zhang Yanghao (1270-1329) styled Ximeng, also known by his literary name Yunzhuang, was born in Jinan of Shandong Province. As an imperial official, he was known for his outspoken criticism of the current policies. His Sanqu poems, mostly written after he resigned from his office and lived as a recluse, giving expressions to his reflections on the conspiratorial bureaucracy. He differed from Guan Hanqing and Ma Zhiyuan in that he inherited much from poets of previous dynasties.
张养浩（1270-1329） 字希孟，号云庄，山东济南人。为官以切直敢谏著称。散曲多为归隐林泉时所作，在大量讴歌隐居之乐和自然风景的同时，透露了宦途险恶的慨叹。艺术上较多汲取前代诗人、词家的成就，与关汉卿、马致远等人有别。

More beautiful are the mountains where clouds throng;
云来山更佳，
But they are still pictures when clouds are gone.
云去山如画，
The mountains are dimly visible because of the veil-like cloud.
山因云晦明，
Against mountains high or low clouds complacently crowd.
云共山高下。
I stand amid the clouds, on a crutch leaning.
倚仗立云沙，
I see homes on hills, my head turning.
回首见山家，
Sleeping among wild grass are wild deers,
野鹿眠山草，
Playing with the wild flowers are monkeys with cheers.
山猿戏野花。
Clouds are gilded with the red sun fair,
云霞，
To me the value of the mountains is beyond compare,
我爱山无价，
Take a walk around the mountain at a good time,
看时行踏，
The cloudy mountains' love of me is also sublime.
云山也爱咱。
