Yang Chaoying also known by his literary name Danzhai, Yang was born in Qingcheng (today's Gaoqing of Shandong Province). By compiling collections of Sanqu poetry Spring Snow and Taiping Yuefu(poetry set to music in the peaceful and prosperous time), he contributed significantly to the preservation and circulation of Sanqu of the Yuan dynasty. He left twenty-seven short lyrics, which cover a variety of topics. His language is plain and fluent, with a style fresh or grand.
杨朝英 号澹斋，青城（今山东高青）人。编有散曲集《阳春白雪》及《太平乐府》，对元散曲的保存和流传有很大贡献。现存小令二十七首，题材较广，曲辞明畅，风格或清丽，或豪放。

梧叶儿·客中闻雨
Down the eve the rain water drops,
檐头溜，
Noise outside the window never stops,
窗外声，
Till the daybreak.
直响到天明。
Breaking into pieces my heart,
滴得人心碎，
Good dreams gone, I lie awake,
聒得人梦怎成？
How merciless is the night rain so hard,
夜雨好无情，
Doesn't it know hearing it makes the grieved heart ache?
不道我愁人怕听。
