From the beak of a swallow you snatch the earth little,
夺泥燕口，
And you peel some iron off the tip of a needle.
削铁针头，
You scratch the gold powder off the Buddha's face made of clay,
刮金佛面细搜求，
You simple wrench something from nothing for some pay.
无中觅有。
In the crop of a quail you search for a piece of pea,
鹌鹑嗉里寻豌豆，
From an egret you try to cut muscles off the knee.
鹭鸶腿上劈精肉。
In the stomach of a mosquito you collect additional fat,
蚊子腹内刳脂油，
--Oh, grindstone, how cruelly you do that!
亏老先生下手。
