Zhou Ju Had a Talk with Jin Tou
【原文】
周（最）谓金投曰公负令秦与强齐战。战胜，秦旦收齐而封 之，使无多割而听天下之战；不胜，国大伤，不得不听秦。秦尽韩、魏之 上党、大原，西止秦之有已！秦地，天下之半也，制齐、楚、三晋之命。复 国，且身危，是何计之道也！’’
【今译】
周（最）对金投说：“您失去秦国的支持而跟强大的齐国作战， 即使战胜齐国，秦国也将会跟齐国结盟，从而控制它的疆域，不让它割 让过多的土地，而您就要受到天下各国的进攻；如果不能取胜，国家就 会大伤元气，不得不听命于秦国，秦国就会完全占有韩国和魏国的上 党、太原，西部的土地就全归秦国所有了 ！秦国的领土扩大到全天下的 一半，并控制着齐国、楚国、赵国、魏国和韩国的命脉。您的国家倾覆， 并且您自身陷入危机，这是什么计策啊！”
Zhou Ju had a talk with Jin Tou. He said, “Now you have cut off your tie with the state of Qin and launched military action against the powerful state of Qi. If you can win the war，Qin will unite with Qi, manage to control Qi，s territory and therefore won’t let it cede much land to you， but let other states attack you. If you lose the war, the power of your state will be badly damaged. Therefore，you will have to follow Qin’ s orders. As a result, Qin will take over Shangdang from the states of Han and Wei，and all those areas west of Dayuan will be in the possession of Qin. Thus Qin will control half of the world’s territory and therefore be able to manipulate the states of Qi, Chu, Zhao, Wei and Han. Not only will your state be ruined，but you yourself will be in danger. What a strategy you are taking!”
