You Teng told King Huai? “Previously, when Count Zhi was going to attack the state of Qiu You, he sent Qiu You a huge bell and the bell was carried to Qiu You by an extremely wide cart ? with the troops of the count following. The troops of the count attacked Qiu You and occupied it. The state of Qiu You was defeated because its sovereign was not prepared for the war at all. When Duke Huan of the state of Qi planned to attack the state of Cai,he pretended to attack the state of Chu,but in fact he launched a war against Cai, As for the state of Qin, it is as covetous and rapacious as wolf and tiger. It has schemed to occupy West Zhou for a long time. Now it sent Chu Liji to lead one hundred chariots to West Zhou. The sovereign of West Zhou is worried about this. He learns from the lessons of Cai and Qiu You, so he has sent his troops to go in advance of Chu Liji and also arranged for marksmen to follow and keep highly alert. Ostensibly they’ve been sent there to ensure the safety of Chu, but in fact they are there to besiege him. Doesn’t the sovereign of West Zhou love his state? He is afraid that he might lose his state some day and accordingly cause problems to Your Majesty. The king of Chu was satisified after hearing these words.
