雍氏之役
The War in Yong Shi
【原文】
雍氏之役，韩征甲与粟于周。周君患之，告苏代。苏代曰何患 焉？代能为君令韩不征甲与粟于周，又能为君得高都。”周君大悦，tl: “子苟能，寡人请以国听
【今译】
雍氏之战中，韩国让西周支援兵甲与粮草。西周国君很为此担忧， 就告诉了苏代。苏代说有什么值得担心的呢？我能让韩国不向大王 征集兵甲与粮草，并且还能使您得到高都的土地西周国君喜出望外， 说广如果先生您真的能做到，我就把国家大事交给先生处理。“
During the war in Yong Shi，the state of Han asked for armour，weapons and army provisions from the state of West Zhou. West Zhou’s sovereign worried about this and told Su Dai. Su Dai said, “Your Majesty, why do you worry about that? 1 can not only stop Han from asking for armour, weapons and army provisions from you, but can obtain its Gaodu for you, ” The sovereign was very happy and promised him，“If you really can do this for me，I will ask you to administer government affairs for me. ”
【原文】
苏代遂往见韩相国公中，曰广公不闻楚计乎？昭应谓楚王曰：‘韩 氏罢于兵，仓廪空，无以守城，吾收之以饥，不过一月，必拔之。’今围雍 氏五月，不能拔，是楚病也.楚王始不信昭应之计矣。今公乃征甲及粟 于周，此告楚病也。昭应闻此，必劝楚王益兵守雍氏，雍氏必拔。”公中曰善。然吾使者已行矣。”代曰：“公何不以高都与周？”公中怒曰广吾 无征甲与粟于周.亦已多矣！何为与高都？”代曰与之高都，则周必折 而人于韩。秦闻之，必大怒，而焚周之节，不通其使。是公以弊高都得 完周也，何不与也？”公中曰善。”不征甲与粟于周而与高都。楚卒不 拔雍氏而去。
【今译】
于是苏代前去见韩国的相国公中并对他说广大人难道没有听说楚 国的计谋吗？昭应曾经告诉楚王说：‘韩国士卒疲惫，粮仓空虚，无力守 城，我们趁着它闹饥荒之际进攻雍氏，不超过一个爿，一定能够攻克 它如今楚国包围雍氏五个月了，还是不能将它攻下，楚国这就已经陷 入困境了，楚王开始不相信昭应的计策了 6如今您却向西周征集兵甲 与粮草，这无疑是在告诉楚国你们已经支撢不住了。昭应听到这个消 息，必定会劝说楚王增加围困雍氏的兵力，雍氏一定会被攻下了。”公中说说得对。可是我已经派使者前往西周了。”苏代说广您何不把高都 送给西周？”公中恼火地说我不向西周征集兵甲和粮草，就已经够便 宜它了，为什么还要送给它高都呢？”苏代说；“把高都送给西周，西周就 一定会转而支持韩国。秦国听到这个消息，一定会非常愤怒，就会焚烧 西周的符节，不再跟它通使。这样一来，您就可以拿破敗的高都来赢得 整个西周，为什幺不把高都送给西周呢？”公中说广好吧。”于是不再向 西周征集兵甲和粮草，而将高都送给西周。楚国最终因不能攻克雍氏 而撤兵了。
Su Dai then went to see Gong Zhong, the prime minister of Han，and told him, “Haven’t you heard about the scheme of the state of Chu, Sire? Zhao Ying once told the king of Chu, ‘Han’s officers and men are all very exhausted, and they are running out of provisions. So they can hardly defend their city. If we take occasion to attack them，we can surely occupy the city within a month. ’ Now the troops of Chu have not yet occupied Yong Shi five months after laying siege to it. So the state of Chu finds itself in a dilemma. And the king of Chu begins to doubt Zhao Ying? s tactics. However, you are going to ask for armour, weapons and army provisions from West Zhou, which will inform Chu that Han is in a serious situation. When Zhao Ying hears this, he will definitely pursuade the king of Chu to send more troops to attack Yong Shi. As a result，Yong Shi will surely be occupied. Gong Zhong said, “I see ? but my messenger has already been on his way to West Zhou. ” Su Dai suggested，“Why not give Gaodu to West Zhou，Sire?” Gong Zhong was very angry and said, “I won’t ask for armour, weapons and army provisions from West Zhou. Isn’t that enough? Why should I give it Gaodu?” Su Dai said, “If you give it Gaodu，you can win over West Zhou. When the state of Qin hears that, it will become angry，burn its agreement with West Zhou and recall its diplomats. Thus you can win the whole-hearted support of West Zhou at the cost of the useless Gaodu, Why not give it to West Zhou then?” Gong Zhong said, “Good idea!” He then stopped asking for armour， weapons and army provisions from West Zhou，and presented Gaodu to West Zhou. Finally, the troops of Chu could not occupy Yong Shi and retreated.
