泠向谓秦王
Ling Xiang Had a Talk with the King of Qin
【原文】
泠向谓秦王曰：“向欲以齐事王，使攻宋也.宋破，晋闰危，安邑王 之有也。燕、赵恶齐、秦之合，必割地以交于王矣.齐必重于王。则向之攻宋也，且以恐齐而重王。王何恶向之攻宋乎？向以王之明为先知,故不言。“
【今译】
泠向对秦王说我想让齐国侍奉大王，才让齐国进攻宋国。宋国 被攻破后，韩国、赵国和魏国就会处在危险之中，大王就可以得到安邑 了 a燕国和赵国讨厌齐国和秦国联合，必定会割让土地来跟大王交好。齐国一定会尊崇大王。我进攻宋国，就是想恐吓齐国并且使大王受到尊崇。大王为什么讨厌我进攻宋国呢？我因为大王的明智以为您能预 料到这一点，所以才没有说."
Ling Xiang had a talk with the king of the state of Qin, He said，“I want to make the state of Qi submit to the authority of Your Majesty, so I have directed Qi to attack the state of Song. If Song is destroyed, the stales of Han, Zhao and WeiCthe three states which once belonged to the state of Jin will be in danger, and Anyi will be under your firm control. The states of Yan and Zhao hate Qi and Qin uniting with each other，so they both will cede some land to you lo build a good relationship with you. As a result, Qi will definitely show much reverence to Your Majesty, So I have arranged to attack Song because I hope to terrify Qi and improve the status of Your Majesty at the same time. Why are you against my plan to attack Song then? I thought that with your wisdom you must have foreseen its aftermalh, so I didn’t explain it to you in advance,"
