陈轸去楚之秦
Chen Zhen Left Chu for Qin
【原文】
陈轸去楚之秦。张仪谓秦王曰陈轸为王臣，常以国情输楚。仪不能与从事，愿王逐之。即复之楚，愿王杀之王曰轸安敢之楚也？”
【今译】
陈轸离开楚国来到秦国。张仪对秦王说陈轸作为大王您的臣子，常常把秦国的机密告诉楚国。我不能跟他一起共事，希望大王把他赶走.假如他再到楚国去，希望大王把他杀了 秦王说广陈轸怎么敢 到楚国去呢？”
Chen Zhen left the state of Chu for the state of Qin. Zhang Yi told the king of Qin，“As one of the high-ranking court officials of Your Majesty, Chen Zhen often presents information of our state to the state of Chu. I cannot work with this kind of person. Please expel him out of our state, Your Majesty. If he goes to the state of Chu again，please kill him. ” The king said, “How dare Chen Zhen go to the state of Chu?”

王召陈轸，告之曰广吾能听子言，子欲何之？请为子车约对曰： “臣愿之楚。”王曰：“仪以子为之楚，吾乂自知子之楚。子非楚，且安之 也？”轸曰广臣出，必故之楚，以顺王与仪之策，而明E之楚与不也。楚 人有两妻者，人洮其长者，詈之；洮其少者，少者许之w居无几何，有两 妻者死D客谓洮者曰：‘汝取长者乎？少者乎？取长者。’客曰：‘长者 詈汝，少者和汝，汝何为取长者？’曰广居彼人之所，则欲其许我也。今 为我妻，则欲其为我詈人也。’今楚王，明主也；而昭阳，贤相也。轸为人臣:"而常以国输楚王，王必不留臣,昭阳将不与臣从事矣,以此明臣之楚与不。"
【今译】
秦王召见陈轸，告诉他说我将答应你的要求。你想去哪里？我 会安排人为你置办好车子.”陈轸回答说我愿意到楚国去。”秦王说: “张仪以为你要到楚国去，我也亲耳听到你要到楚国去了。除了楚国， 你还想去哪里呢？”陈珍说我离开了秦国，一定会到楚国去的，以此来 顺应大王跟张仪的谋划，并且表明我到底是否串通楚国了。楚国有一 个人有两个老婆。有人勾引年纪大一些的老婆，这个老婆大骂他。那 人又勾引年龄小一些的，年龄小的就应允了。没过多长时间，有两个老 婆的男人死了，有位客人问曾经勾引他老婆的那人说：‘你要娶年纪大 些的，还是年轻的？’‘娶年纪大的。’客人说：4年纪大的骂过你，年纪小 的应允过你。你为什么要娶那个大的呢？’那人说广当她还住在那个男 人的家里时，我希望她应允我；如今作为我的老婆，我希望她能为了我去辱骂别的男人。’如今楚王是个英明的君主，而且，昭阳是个贤能的宰相。我作为别人的臣子，却常常把自己国家的情况告诉楚国，楚王一定 不会容纳我，昭阳也将不跟我共事了 g凭借这些就能表明我是否串通 楚国了。”

Thus I can comply with the plan designed for me by Your Majesty and Zhang Yi. At the same time，it will also be clear whether or not 1 have colluded with the state of Chu against Qin, Once, in the state of Chu, there was a person who had two wivCvS.八 man tried to flirt with the elder one of the two wives. She scolded him. He then tried to flirt with the younger one. She agreed. After a short time, the husband died, A guest asked the man who had tried to flirt with the wives, ‘Are you going to marry the elder one or the younger one?y 41 will marry the elder one.， The guest asked further, The elder one scolded you，but ihe younger one agreed to carry on a clandestine love affair with you. Why do you want to marry the elder one then?，The man said? ‘At the time she belonged to another man, I hoped that she would flirt with me. Now I am choosing my own wife. So I hope that she will scold others who try to flirt with her.，Now the king of Chu is a wise sovereign. Zhao Yang is a capable prime minister. As a high-ranking court official of Your Majesty, if I had often divulged important information of our stale to the state of Chu, the king of Chu would definitely refuse to ncccpt me. Zhao Yang would definitely refuse to work with me in the same government. Hence, this evidence shows that I do not collude with the state of Chu."

轸出，张仪入，问王u;“陈轸果安之？ ”王曰：“夫轸，天下之辩士也， 孰视寡人臼：‘轸必之楚。’寡人遂无奈何也。寡人因问‘子必之楚 也，则仪之言果信矣！’轸曰：‘非独仪之言也，行道之人皆知之。昔者， 子胥忠其君，天下皆欲以为臣；孝己爱其亲，天下皆欲以为子。故卖仆 妾不出里巷而取者，良仆妾也；出妇嫁于乡里者，善妇也。臣不忠于王, 楚何以轸为？忠尚见弃，轸不之楚，而何之乎？’”王以为然，遂善待之。
【今译】
陈胗出去后，张仪进来了，问秦王道广陈轸到底要去哪里？”秦王 说那陈轸，是天下能言善辩的士人，他仔细端详着我说广我一定要到 楚国去/于是我就无可奈何了。我就问他说：‘如果你一定要到楚国去 的话、那张仪的话就属实了。’陈轸说：‘不单张仪知道这件事，连路上的 行人也知道了。从前，伍子胥忠于自己的君主，天下国君都想有这样的 臣子；孝己孝顺自己的父母，天下的人都想有这样的儿子。所以，奴碑 如果不出本街巷就能被卖掉，就是上好的奴婢；被休掉的女人如果能够 在当地嫁出，就是上好的女人。假如我不忠于自己的国君，楚国要我做 什么？如果像我这么忠心也遭到遗弃，我不去楚国，又能去哪里呢？，” 秦王认为陈轸说的话很有道理，于是就善待他。

Previously, Wu Zixu was very loyal to his sovereign，so sovereigns all over the world hoped that their court officials would be as loyal Wu Zixu. Xiao Ji treated his parents with filial piety, so people all over the world hoped that their sons would be as dutiful as Xiao Ji. If a servant can be sold to people living in the same street as his former master, that means nothing but the high quality of the servant. If a divorced woman can remarry a man living in the neighbourhood of her ex-husband, that means nothing but the high morality of the divorced woman. Suppose I was not loyal to you, how could the state of Chu believe that I would be loyal to it? Loyai as I am, I am estranged by Your Majesty. Where shall I go if I don’t head for the state of Chu?" The king of Qin thought that Chen Zhen's words were very reasonable, so he started to treat Chen Zhen well.
