宜阳之役楚畔秦而合于韩
During the War in Yiyang,Chu Cut Off Ties with Qin and Allied with Han
【原文】
官阳之役，楚畔秦而合于韩，秦王惧。甘茂曰：“楚虽合韩，不为韩氏先战，韩亦恐战而楚有变其后，韩、楚必相御也。楚言与韩而不余怨 于秦，臣是以知其御也。”
【今译】
宜阳战役中，楚国背叛了秦国而跟韩国结为联盟，秦王很恐惧。甘 茂说广楚国虽然跟韩国结为联盟，但不会为韩国打头阵，韩国也担心交战后楚国会在背后图谋它，韩国和楚国一定会互相防备的。楚国声称 跟韩国结盟却不跟秦国结怨，我由此知道它会设防的。”
During the war in Yiyang, the state of Chu cut off its ties with the state of Qin and allied with the state of Han, The king of Qin was afraid. Gan Mao said > “Although Chu has allied with Han, it won’t fight in the van for the sake of Han. On the other hand, Han is also afraid that when it is engaged in warfare with our state，Chu might conspire against it and attack its troops in the rear. Han and Chu will definitely take precautions against each other. Han declared to build up alliance with Chu but isn’t at enmity with our state. Thus I know that Han and Chu must take precautions against each other,"
