The King of Qin Had a Talk with Gan Mao
【原文】
秦王谓甘茂曰楚客来使者多健，与寡人争辞，寡人数穷焉，为之 奈何？”甘茂对曰广王勿患也！其健者来使（者），则王勿听其事；其需弱 者来使，则王必听之。然则需弱者用而健者不用矣，王因而制之。”
【今译】
秦王对甘茂说楚国派来的使者大多数很健谈，跟我争辩起来，我 多次被他们说得理屈辞穷6怎么办呢？”甘茂回答说大王不要担心！ 那些健谈的人来出使时，大王就不要听他们说的话；那些懦弱的人来出 使时，大王就一定听他们说话。这样一来，懦弱的人就会被重用，而健 谈的人就不被任用了，大王就能乘机驾驭他们了."
The king of the state of Qin had a talk with Gan Mao and said? “Most of the emissaries of the state of Chu are very sophisticated and persuasive. When they discuss something with me, I often just cannot find the right words to debate with them. What shall I do?” Gan Mao said, “Your Majesty, please don't worry about that. When sophisticated and persuasive emissaries are sent here，just don’t follow their advice. When cowardly emissaries are sent here, make sure that you will follow all of their ideas. As a result，Chu will only use cowardly emissaries and therefore no longer employ the sophisticated and persuasive ones. So you can easily take control of them. ”
