Gan Mao Allied Qin with Wei to Attack Chu
【原文】
甘茂约秦、魏而攻楚。楚之（相）[拒]秦者屈盖，为楚和于秦，秦启 关而听楚使. 甘茂谓秦王曰：“怵于楚而不使魏制和，楚必曰：‘秦紫魏.'不悦而合于楚，楚、魏为一，国恐伤矣。王不如使魏制和，魏制和， 必悦。王不恶于魏，则寄地必多矣。”
【今译】
甘茂联合秦国和魏国一起来进攻楚国。楚国抗秦的将领屈盖为楚 国跟秦国讲和，秦国打开函谷关让他入内并听从了他议和的主张。甘 茂对秦王说：“被楚国说服了却不让魏国主持议和，楚国一定会扬言‘秦国出卖了魏国\魏国不高兴了就会跟楚国结盟，楚国和魏国联合在一 起，秦国恐怕就要受到损伤了 .大王不如让魏国主持议和，魏国主持议 和，一定会很高兴的。大王不得罪魏国，就一定能获得更多的土地了。”
Gan Mao allied the state of Qin with the state of Wei to launch a concerted attack against the state of Chu. Otherwise Chu will declare that Qin has betrayed Wei. Thus Wei will be unhappy with us and therefore unite with Chu. If Chu and Wei build an alliance，it might cause a severe threat to our state. Your Majsety, you'd better ask Wei to preside over the negotiating process. Thus Wei will be satisfied. If Wei is not resentful towards Your Majesty, we can surely obtain more territory. ”
