Marquis Ying Said That People in Zheng Called Unprocessed Jade Pu
【原文】
应侯曰郑人谓玉未理者璞，周人谓鼠未腊者朴。周人怀朴过郑 贾，曰：‘欲卖朴乎？’郑贾曰：‘欲之。’出其朴。视之，乃鼠也，因谢不取。 今平原君自以贤显名于天下，然降其主父沙丘而臣之。天下之王尚犹 尊之，是天下之王不如郑贾之智也，眩于名，不知其实也。”
【今译】
应侯说郑人把没有经过琢磨的玉叫做璞，周国人把没有经过臉 制的老鼠叫做朴。一个周国人怀里揣着朴来到郑地的商人那里，问他: ‘想买朴吗？，郑地商人说"想买。，周国人拿出他的朴。郑人看了一下， 却是老鼠，于是推辞不买。如今平原君以为自己贤能的美名传遍天下， 然而却眨谪赵武灵王在沙丘做臣子，天下各国的君主却还尊崇他，这样 看来，天下各国的君主还不如郑地的商人有智慧呢。他们被表面的名 称所迷惑，根本不知道实际情况。”
Marquis Ying said, “People in the state of Zheng call unprocessed jade Pu. The merchant looked at it and found that it was a dead rat, so he refused to purchase it. Nowadays, Lord Pingyuan considers himself famous all over the world due to his wisdom and capability. However， he degraded King Wuling of the state of Zhao,made him stay in the area of Shaqiu and regard him as one of the court officials of his successor T or the new sovereign. Nevertheless, sovereigns in the world still respect him very much. Hence, sovereigns in the world are indeed not as intelligent as the merchant from the state of Zheng. They are confused by inflated names and titles but have no idea of reality."
