谓应侯曰君禽马服乎
Su Dai Asked Marquis Ying Whether or Not Lord Wu，an Had Captured the Son of Lord Mafu
【原文】
谓应侯曰:"君禽马服乎？”曰然又即围邯郸乎曰广然。”“赵 亡，秦王王矣，武安君为三公。武安君所以为秦战胜攻取者七十余城， 南亡鄢、郢、汉中，禽马服之军，不亡一甲，虽周、[召、]吕望之功，亦不过 此矣。赵亡，秦王王，武安君为三公，君能为之下乎？虽欲无为之下，固 不得之矣！秦尝攻韩邢，困于上党，上党之民皆返为赵。天下之民不乐 为秦民之日固久矣！今攻赵，北地入燕，东地人齐，南地人楚、魏，则秦所得（不一）[无]几何。故不如因而割之，（因）[毋]以为武安功。”
【今译】
(韩国和赵国的使者苏代）对应侯说武安君白起活捉了马服君的 儿子赵括吗？’’应侯说广是的。”“又立即围困邯郸了吗？”应侯说：“对。” “赵国灭亡以后，秦王就会称王了，武安君也会贵为三公^武安君为秦 国击敗并占领的城邑有七十多座，在南边攻克了鄢、郢与汉中，活捉马 服君的军队，秦军却没有损失一个士卒，周公、召公与吕望的功劳也不 过如此。如果赵国灭亡了，秦王称王，武安君做了三公，您能甘心屈居 在他之下吗？不想在他之下，也是做不到的！秦国曾经进攻韩国的陉 邑，围困上党，上党的百姓都返回到赵国了。天下老百姓不愿意做秦国 的子民本来就有很长时间了丨如今进攻赵国，赵国战敗后，北边的领土将归燕国，东边的领土将归齐国，南边的领土将归楚国和魏国，那秦国 所得到的就非常有限了。所以不如（不开战而）趁机割取赵国的土地， 不要再让武安君立功了."

He badly defeated the troops of the state of Zhao under the leadership of Lord Mafu, However, his own troops didn’t suffer any casualties at all. People like Duke Zhou, Duke Zhao and Lii Wang couldn’t be more meritorious than him! If Zhao is ruined, the king of Qin will address himself as King, and Lord Wur an will become one of the Three Dukes. How can you tolerate the fact that you will become less powerful and influential than him? Although you cannot bear it，there is nothing you can do about it! Once Qin attacked Xing of the state of Han and besieged Shangdang. However, all the people of Shangdang escaped to the nearby territory belonging to the state of Zhao. For a long time, people all over the world avoided being subjects of the state of Qin! Now if you attack the state of Zhao, the northern territory of Zhao will be seized by the state of Yan, the eastern areas will be taken over by the state of Qi，and the southern areas will be occupied by the states of Chu and Wei, Thus the state of Qin will only gain very little. So，you’d better take occasion to give up military action and ask Zhao to cede some land to Qin, Thus you can avoid this contribution being attributed to Lord Wu'an."
