楚魏战于陉山
The Troops of Chu and Those of Wei Engaged in Battle near Mount Xing
【原文】
楚、魏战于陉山.魏许秦以上洛，以绝秦于楚。魏战胜，楚败于南 阳^>秦责略于魏，魏不与。营浅谓秦王曰王何不谓楚王曰：‘魏许寡 人以地，今战胜，魏王倍寡人也。王何不与寡人遇？魏畏秦、楚之合，必 与秦地矣。是魏胜楚而亡地于秦也；是王以魏地德寡人，秦之楚者多资矣.魏弱，若不出地，则王攻其南，寡人绝其西，魏必危。”秦王曰广善?” 以是告楚。楚王扬言与秦遇，魏王闻之，恐，效上洛于秦。
【今译】
楚国和魏国在陉山交战。魏国许诺把上洛送给秦国，来断绝秦国 跟楚国的关系。魏国军队战胜了，楚国军队在南阳被挫敗。秦国向魏 国索要它许诺的土地，魏国不给?营浅对秦王说大王不如让人对楚 王说：‘魏国曾经答应给我土地，如今在战争中获胜了，魏王就不履行对 我许下的诺言了。大王何不跟我会晤？魏国害怕秦国会跟楚国联合起来，一定会给秦国土地。魏国战胜了楚国，却割让土地给秦国；大王您用魏国的土地嘉惠我，秦国也会送给楚国一份厚礼的。魏国现在已经 疲弱了，如果它不肯给我土地，那大王就派兵从南面进攻它，我从西面 攻击它，魏国必定危急了秦王说“好主意”，就把这番话告诉了楚国。 楚王扬言要跟秦王会晤，魏王听说了，非常担心，就把上洛献给了秦国。
The troops of the state of Chu and those of the state of Wei engaged in battle near Mount Xing, In order to make the state of Qin cut off its ties with Chu, Wei promised to cede Shangluo to Qin. Then the troops of Wei won the war and defeated the troops of Chu in Nanyang, Qin asked Wei for the land it had promised. However, Wei didn’t keep its word. Guan Qian told the king of Qin, “Why not send a message to the king of the state of Chu as follows； ‘ Wei has promised to give me some land. However，after it won the war，the king of Wei didn’t keep his word to me. Your Majesty, why not arrange a meeting between the two of us? Thus Wei will fear that our two states might unite with each other to conspire against it. Then it will definitely give me the land. So, Wei will cede its land to Qin even though it won the war against Chu. Moreover, Your Majesty will also do me a big favour by forcing Wei to cede me the land because of our meeting. I will give you a very generous gift in return. Wei is exhausted now due to the war. If it refuses to cede the land，you can attack it from the south. I will attack it from the west. Accordingly, Wei will be in danger. ”，The king of Qin said，“Good idea, ” Then he sent this message to Chu. The king of Chu declared that he would meet the king of Qin in person. When the king of Wei heard that, he was scared. So he ceded Shangluo to Qin.
