The War in Handan
【原文】
邯郸之难，赵求救于齐。田侯召大臣而谋，曰广救赵，孰与勿救？” 部子曰：“不如勿救。”段干纶曰:“弗救，则我不利/’田侯曰何哉？”“夫 魏氏兼邯郸，其于齐何利哉？”田侯H:“善乃起兵，曰军于邯郸之 郊段干纶曰广臣之求利且不利者，非此也。夫救邯郸，军于其郊，是 赵不拔而魏全也，故不如南攻襄陵以弊魏。邯郸拔而承魏之弊，是赵破 而魏弱也。”田侯曰广善。”乃起兵南攻襄陵。七月，邯郸拔。齐因承魏之弊，大破之桂陵。

就国进攻赵国的邯郸，赵国向齐国求救。齐威王召集大臣们商量， 说广援救赵国有利，还是不援救有利呢？”邹忌说不如不援救广段干 纶说不援救赵国，就对我国不利。”齐威王问道为什么呢？”（段干纶 回答说：）“魏国兼并了邯郸，对齐国有什么好处？”齐威王说：“好。”于是 派遣军队，说：“在邯郸郊外部署兵力/’段干纶说我所谓的追求利益 或不利，不是这个意思。营救邯郸，将军队驻扎在邯郸郊外，这样一来， 赵国就不会被攻陷，魏国也能够保全实力。我们不如向南进攻裒陵，使 魏国疲弊。邯郸被攻克后，我们趁着魏国军队疲惫不堪之际进攻魏国， 这样既能攻破赵国又能削弱魏国。”齐威王说广好于是派兵南下进攻裏陵。七个月后，邯郸被攻克，齐国军队因为利用了魏芊痠惫不堪的 时机，所以在桂陵将他们打得惨敗。

If we deploy our troops in Handan，s suburbs to rescue it, Handan won't be occupied and Wei can maintain its military strength. It will be better to send our troops to march towards the south to attack Xiangling and thus make the enemy troops exhausted. If Handan is occupied and Wei ^ s troops are exhausted，Zhao will be broken and Wei will be weakened. ” King Wei said, Good idea. ” He then sent his troops to the south to attack Xiangling. Handan was occupied in July. Qi took advantage of the fatigue of the troops of Wei and badly defeated them in Guiling.
