The Troops of Qin Attacked Zhao
【原文】
秦攻赵，赵令楼缓以五城求讲于秦，而与之伐齐,齐王恐，因使人 以十城求讲于秦。楼子恐，因以上党二十四县许秦王。赵足之齐，谓齐 王曰王欲秦、赵之解乎？不如从合于赵.赵必倍秦。倍秦，则齐无患 矣！”
【今译】
秦国军队进攻赵国，赵王命令楼缓进献五座城邑来跟秦国讲和，并 且跟秦国相约一起攻打齐国。齐王很害怕，于是派人献上十座城邑来 跟秦国讲和。楼缓很恐惧，于是许诺把上党地区的二十四个县献给秦 国,赵足到了齐国，对齐王说：“大王想解除秦国和赵国的联盟吗？不 如跟赵国联合起来，赵国必定会背叛秦国。赵国背叛秦国后，齐国就没 有忧患了 ！”
The troops of the state of Qin attacked the state of Zhao. The king of Zhao sent Lou Huan to present Qin with five citics to negotiate a ceasefire with Qin and unite wilh it to invade the state of Qi. The king of Qi was frightened. So in order to make peace with Qin，he sent someone to present Qin with ten cities. Lou Huan worried about this very much. So he promised to cede the king of Qin twenty-four counties in the area of Shangdang, Zhao Zu wen to the state of Qi and told the king of Qi, “Your Majesty, do you want to destroy the ties between Qin and Zhao? If so, you’d better establish good relations with Zhao. Then Zhao will definitely cut off its ties with Qin. In this case, your .state will be free from threat!"
