Someone Had a Talk with Qi's King
【原文】
或谓齐王曰周、韩西有强秦，东有赵、魏。秦伐周、韩之西，赵、魏 不伐周、韩，为割韩却周害也。及韩却周割之[后]，赵、魏亦不免与秦为 患矣。今齐、秦伐赵、魏，则亦不果于赵、魏之应秦时伐周、韩。（令） [今]齐人于秦而伐赵、魏，赵、魏亡之后，秦东面而伐齐，齐安得救天下乎？”
【今译】
有人对齐王说：“周国和韩国西边有强大的秦国，东边有赵国和魏 国.秦国入侵周国和韩国的西部，赵国和魏国却不入侵它们，这是因为 周国和韩国的土地被侵吞后会给它们造成危害的缘故。等到韩国和周 国被瓜分了，赵国和魏国就不免跟秦国之间发生战事了。如今齐国和 秦国联合攻打赵国和魏国，也跟赵国和魏国响应秦国来进攻周国和韩 国是一样的。如果齐国伙同秦囯进攻赵国和魏国，赵国和魏国灭亡之 后，秦国就会向东攻打齐国，齐国怎能得到天下各国的救援呢？”
Someone had a talk with the king of the state of Qi and said，“Regarding the states of Zhou and Han，the powerful Qin is adjacent to them in the west, and the states of Zhao and Wei are located to their east. The troops of Qin have invaded the western areas of Zhou and Han, But Zhao and Wei don’t invade them, because it is disadvantageous to them if the territory of Zhou and Han is ceded. If Zhou and Han's territory is lost, Zhao and Wei won't be able to avoid the threat caused by the state of Qin. Now the state of Qi is joining Qin in attacking Zhao and Wei. It is somewhat the same as Zhao and Wet assisting Qin to invade Zhou and Han. Now if Qi reinforces Qin to invade Zhao and Wei, the troops of Qin will launch an attack on your state after they defeat Zhao and Wei. How can Qi win over reinforcements from other states in the world if this is the case?”
