孟尝君燕坐
Lord Mengchang Sat at Leisure
【原文】
孟尝君燕坐，谓三先生曰：“愿闻先生有以补[文]之阙者！”一人曰： “訾！天下之主有侵君者，臣请以臣之血湔其衽田瞀曰广车轶之所能 至，请掩足下之短者，诵足下之长。千乘之君与万乘之相，其欲有君也， 如使而弗及也。”胜腎曰臣愿以足下之府库财物，收天下之士，能为君 决疑应卒，若魏文侯之有田子方、段干木也。此臣之所为君取矣。”
【今译】
孟尝君闲坐着，对三位先生说：“我想听听先生们有什么能够弥补 我的缺憾的！”其中的一个人说：“哎！天下其他国家的君主如果有侵略 您的，请让我把自己的鲜血洒在他的衣襟上。”田瞀说凡是车辆所能 到达的地方，请让我掩盖您的短处，赞扬您的长处。让那些拥有一千辆 战车的国家的君主和拥有一万辆战车的国家的相国都想任用您，都争 先恐后地派使者来，恐怕不能最先到达这里.”胜瞀说：“我愿意用您府 库里的财物来招收天下的士人，他们能为您决断疑难、应付突然变故， 就像魏文侯拥有田子方与段干木那样.这是我能为您争取到的。”
Lord Mengchang sat at leisure along with three scholars. He asked them, “I want you to tell me something you can do to make up my deficiency. ” One of them said? “Well，if the sovereign of any state in the world launches an attack on you， I will fight to the death for you and let my blood spray onto the front of his clothes,” Tian Mao said, “No matter how remote some areas might be，as long as they can be reached by carriage, I will go there both to cover up your shortcomings and to extend your strong points, I will make sovereigns of the states with one thousand chariots and prime ministers of the states with ten thousand chariots vie with each other to win you over. Their emissaries will be hurriedly sent here as if they were running out of time. ” Sheng Gu said, “I will distribute the treasure and wealth kept in your depots to win over capable scholars in the world for you. Therefore,they can deal with problems for you and also react to unexpected events just like Tian Zifang and Duangan Mu did for Marquis Wen of the state of Wei before. That is what 1 can do for you."
