燕攻齐齐破
Yan Attacked Qi and Defeated It
【原文】
燕攻齐，齐破^闵王奔莒，淖齿杀闵王。田单守即墨之城，破燕兵, 复齐墟。襄王为太子（征）[微夂齐以破燕，田单之立疑，齐国之众，皆
以田单为自立也。
【今译】
燕国军队进攻齐国，将齐国攻破。齐闵王逃亡到莒国，淖齿杀害了 夺闵王。田单固守即墨城，去敗燕国军队，收复了齐国故城。裏王作为太子隐居民间。齐国打敗燕国后，田单没有确定拥立谁为齐王，齐国的民众都以为田单要自立为王。
The troops of the state of Yan attacked the state of Qi and defeated it. King Min of Qi escaped to Ju. Zhuo Chi murdered King Min. Tian Dan secured the city of Jimo, defeated the troops of Yan and reoccupied the ruined capital of Qi. The crown prince’the later King Xiang, hid among the people. Under Tian Dany s leadership, the troops of Qi defeated those of Yan. Tian Dan was not sure whom he should appoint to be the new king. The people of the state of Qi thought that Tian Dan might take over the throne himself.

襄王立，田单相之。过苜水，有老人涉莆而寒，出不能行，坐于沙 中。田单见其寒，欲使后车分衣，无可以分者，单解裘而衣之。襄王恶 之，曰:“田单之施，将欲以取我国乎？不早图，恐后之。”左右顾无人，岩 下有贯珠者，襄王呼而问之曰：“女闻吾言乎？ ”对曰广闻之。”王曰女 以为何若？”对曰广王不如因以为曰善。王嘉单之善，下令曰：‘寡人忧 民之饥也，单收而食之；寡人忧民之寒也，单解裘而衣之。寡人忧劳百 姓，而单亦忧之，称寡人之意。’单有是善，而王嘉之，善单之善，亦王之善已！”王曰广善。乃赐单牛酒，嘉其行。
【今译】
裏王即位后，田单做他的相国。田单路过淄水的时候，有一个老人 过河后身上发冷，从水里出来后就不能行走了，坐在岸边的沙子里。田 单发觉他感到冷，就让后车上的人分些衣服给老人，却没有多余的衣服 可以分给他，田单就脱下自己的皮袄给老人穿上。裏王讨厌他这么做， 说田单这么布施，是想取代我做君主吧？如果不及早图谋，恐怕会落 在他后面左右看了看，没有别人，岩石下面只有一个采珠的人，襄王 把他叫上前来，问他道你听到我说的话了吗？”贯珠者回答道听见 了。”襄王问你认为怎么样？”贯珠者回答说广大王不如趁机把这作为 自己的善举。大王嘉奖田单的善举，下达一道命令说：‘我忧心百姓饥 饿，而田单收养他们；我忧心百姓寒冷，而田单解下自己的皮袄给他们 穿，我为百姓忧心忡忡，而田单也为他们忧心，合乎我的心意。’田单有 这样的善举，而大王嘉奖他，那田单的善举也就成了大王的善举了!”襄王说：“好。”于是賜给田单牛和酒，嘉奖他的善行。
After King Xiang came into power，Tian Dan served him as prime minister. Once，when Tian Dan passed by the Zishui River, he saw an old man feeling very cold after having crossed the river. The old man couldn’t walk, so he sat in the sand, Tian Dan realized that the old man felt very cold, so he asked the people sitting in the accompanying carriage to share their clothes with the old man. But they didn’t have surplus clothes to offer. Tian Dan took off his own fur coat and let the old man put it on. King Xiang disliked his conduct and said, u Tian Dan offers others his own possessions. Probably he wants to replace me to govern the state? If I don’t plan in time, he might take action before I do. ” He looked around and found nobody in the court hall. Outside the hall，there was a man named Guan Shu. King Xiang ordered Guan Shu to come up and asked, “Have you heard what I said?” Guan Shu replied, “Yes，I have.” The king asked further，“What do you think about it?” Guan Shu replied，“It would be better if Your Majesty can take occasion to attribute Tian Dan’s benevolent conduct to youself, You，d better praise the kind deeds of Tian Dan and issue an order as follows； I worry that the people don’t have enough food to eat，so Tian Dan supports them. I worry that the people don’t have clothes to wear, so Tian Dan provide them his own clothes. I worry about the problems of the people，so does Tian Dan. I am very satisfied with him.，When Tian Dan has kind deeds，you should praise him. By praising the kind deeds of Tian Dan，you can attribute his kind deeds to yourself!”King Xiang said，“Good idea. ” So he awarded Tian Dan cows and wine to extol his benevolent conduct,

后数日，贯珠者复见王，曰广王至朝日，宜召田单而揖之于庭，口劳 之。乃布令求百姓之饥寒者，收穀之厂乃使人听于闾里，闻丈夫之相与语，举曰田单之爱人！嗟，乃王之教泽也！”
【今译】
过了几天，贯珠者又谪见襄王，说广大王到上朝的那天，应该召见 田单，并且在朝堂上对他行礼，并对他进行口头表扬。然后命令他搜寻 饥寒交迫的百姓，收留并供养他们于是派人到街巷间探听风声，听到 男人们都互相转告说：“田单爱护百姓！哎，都是大王的教导熏陶的结 果！”
A few days later, Guan Shu went to see the king again and said，“The next time Your Majesty holds court, you should call in Tian Dan, bow to him at court and praise him orally. Then you can order him to look for and support those who don’t have enough to wear or eat. ” Then the king sent spies to collect information in lanes and streets. They heard the people talking with each other and saying, uLook, how benevolent Tian Dan is to the people! This is surely nothing but the positive influence of the instructions of His Majesty!”
