齐以淖君之乱(仇)秦
Qi Was Hostile Towards Qin Because of the Rebellion Stirred Up by Zhuo Chi
【原文】
齐以淖君之乱（仇）秦，其后秦欲取齐，故使苏涓之楚，令任固之 齐。齐明谓楚王曰：“秦王欲楚，不若其欲齐之甚也。其使涓来，以示齐之有楚，以资固于齐。齐见楚，必受固。是王之听涓也，适为固驱以合 齐、秦也。齐、秦合，非楚之利也。且夫涓来之辞，必非固之所以之齐之 辞也。王不如令人以涓来之辞谩固于齐，齐、秦必不合。齐、秦不合，则 王重矣。王欲收齐以攻秦，汉中可得也。王即欲以秦攻齐，淮泗之间亦 可得也。”
【今译】
齐国因为淖齿的叛乱而仇恨秦国。后来秦国想跟齐国交好，所以 派苏涓到楚国，让任固到齐国。齐明对楚王说秦王想跟楚国结交的心意比不上跟齐国交好的愿望迫切。他派苏涓来这里，是向齐国显示 秦国与楚国交好了，以此来帮助任固在齐国的行动。夺国发觉楚国和 秦国亲善，一定会接受任固的条件。大王听从苏涓的建议，恰好能为任 固促成齐国跟秦国的交好。齐国和秦国亲善，对楚国不利。再说苏涓 在我们这里所说的话一定跟任固在齐国说的话不一样。大王不如用苏 涓在我们这里所说的一番话到齐国离间任固，那样齐国和秦国就一定 不能交好，齐国和秦国不能亲善，大王的地位就会非常重要了。大王 如果想拉拢齐国来进攻秦国，就能占领汉中；大王如果想拉拢秦国来进 攻齐国，也可以得到淮河和泗水之间的土地。”
Owing to the rebellion stirred up by Zhuo Chi, the state of Qi was hostile towards the state of Qin, After some time， the king of the state of Qin wanted to establish good relations with the state of Qi，so he sent Su Juan to the state of Chu and Ren Gu to the state of Qi on diplomatic missions to establish ties with them. Qi Ming had a talk with the king of
the state of Chu and said， “ Rather than establishing diplomatic relations with our state，the king of Qin wishes more sincerely to build up ties with the state of Qi. The reason why he has sent Su Juan here lies in the fact that he wants to show Qi that he has won over our state and thus facilitate Ren Gu's diplomatic activities in the state of Qi. If the king of Qi realizes that Qin has established good relations with our state? he will definitely follow Ren Gu' s advice and fulfill his demands. Therefore, if Your Majesty take Su Juan’s advice，you are only helping Ren Gu build up ties between Qi and Qin. If Qi and Qin are close to each other，it is disadvantageous to our state. Su Juan’s diplomacy must be different from that of Ren Gu which is employed in the state of Qi. It would be better if Your Majesty use Su Juan’s diplomacy to alienate Ren Gu in the state of Qi. Then Qi and Qin certainly won’t establish good relations between each other. If this is the case, you will become very influential. If you want to ally with the state of Qi to attack the state of Qin，you can obtain the region of Hanzhong. If you hope to unite with the state of Qin to invade the state of Qi, you can also seize from Qi the areas between the Huai River and the Sishui River.
