五国约以伐齐。昭阳谓楚王曰五国已破齐，秦必南图。”楚王曰：“然则奈何？”对曰韩氏，辅国也，好利而恶难。好利，可营也；恶难，可 惧也。我厚略之以利，其心必营；我悉兵以临之，其心必惧我。彼惧吾 兵而营我利，五国之事必可败也。约绝之后，虽勿与地，可
【今译】
燕、韩、赵、魏和秦五个国家联合起来进攻齐国。昭阳对楚王说:
Five states—Yan, Han, Zhao, Wei，and Qin built up allied forces to attack the state of Qi. Zhao Yang told the king of the state of Chu, “After the allied forces of these five states defeat the state of Qi，the state of Qin will definitely send troops to the south to attack our state. ” The king of Chu asked，“What shall we do then?” Zhao Yang replied， “The state of Han can’t hold an unalterable standpoint. It is greedy and dislikes dealing with difficulties. Because it is greedy，we can cheat it. Because it dislikes dealing with difficulties，we can terrify it. Surely it can be won over if we provide it with generous gifts. Certainly it can be scared if we dispatch our military forces against it. If it is scared by our military forces and tempted by our generous gifts，we can definitely damage the schemes of these five states. After the relationship among these states deteriorates, we can refuse to give Han the land we have promised without facing any problem,"

楚王曰广善。”乃命大公事之韩，见公仲曰夫牛阑之事，马陵之 难，亲（王）[主]之所见也。（王）[主]苟无以五国用兵，请效列城五，请 悉楚国之众也，以席于齐
【今译】
“五国联军攻破夺国以后，秦国一定会向南图谋楚国。”楚王说广那该怎 么办？”昭阳回答说：“韩国是个立场不坚定的国家，贪图利益而厌恶困 难.贪图利益，就可以诱惑它；厌恶困难，就可以恐吓它。我们用重利 贿赂它，它一定会被迷惑；我们派出全部军队威逼它，它一定会很惊恐， 它害怕我们的兵力而且被我们的利益所诱惑，那五国的事情必定可以 敗坏了。它们的联盟被刼断以后，即使不给韩国土地，也是可以的。” 楚王说：“好主意于是就命令大公事到韩国去拜见韩相公仲，说: “牛阑和马陵的战事，您是亲眼所见的。您如果不参与五国的军事行 动，请让我献上五座城邑，并且动用楚国全部的兵力来围谋齐国。”
The king of Chu said，“Good idea.” Then he sent Dagong Shi to the state of Han to see Gong Zhong，the prime minister of Han, and tell him, “You have experienced personally both the wars fought in Niulan and in Maling. If you don 't join the allied forces in taking military action against the state of Qi, I will cede five cities to you. And please allow us to send all the officers and men of our state to invade the state of Qi. ”

韩国跟赵国和魏国断绝关系以后，楚国果然不给韩国土地，五国联合的事也因而受阻。
After Han cut off its diplomatic ties with the states of Zhao and Wei, Chu as expected refused to present Han with the land it had promised. As a result, the five allied states' plan for taking military action against Qi was destroyed
