Jiang Yi Planned to Make Zhao Xixu Notorious in Chu
【原文】
江乙欲恶昭奚恤于楚，谓楚王曰:“下比周，则上危；下分争，则上 安。王亦知之乎？愿王勿忘也。且人有好扬人之善者，于王何如？”王 曰此君子也，近之。”江乙曰有好扬人之恶者，于王何如？”王曰此 小人也，远之/’江乙曰然则且有子杀其父、臣弑其主者，而王终已不 知者，何也？以王好闻人之美，而恶闻人之恶也。”王曰：“善。寡人愿两 闻之."
【今译】
江乙打算在楚国诋毁昭奚恤，对楚王说广下面的人朋党比周，君主 就危险了；下面的人互相纷争，君主就安全了,大王也知道这个说法 吗？希望大王不要忘记了！有人喜欢宣杨别人的善行，大王认为这人 怎么样？”楚王说广这是个君子，应亲近他江乙说有人喜欢宣杨别 人的缺点，大王认为这人怎么样？”楚王说这是个小人，应疏远他。”江 乙说既然如此，有人作为儿子，将杀死自己的父亲，作为臣子，将谋杀 自己的君主，然而大王却终生都没有意识到，是什么原因？是因为大王 喜欢听别人的优点，而讨厌听别人的缺点." 楚王说说得好。我希望 两方面的话都听听。”
Jiang Yi planned to make Zhao Xixu notorious in the state of Chu, so he had a talk with the king of Chu and said, ul{ the inferiors build up cliques，the sovereign will be in danger. I will endear myself to him," Jiang Yi continued，“If a person likes exposing other shortcomings, what do you think of him?” The king said， “This is a base man. I will alienate him. ” Jiang Yi said further，“However, there is someone here. As a son, he is going to kill his father，and as a high-ranking court official， he is going to murder his sovereign. But Your Majesty hasn’t realized this during your lifetime. Why? Because you like hearing about others, kind deeds but hate listening to their shortcomings. ” The king said, “I see. In future，I would like to listen to both ides,"
