齐秦约攻楚
Qi and Qin United with Each Other to Attack Chu
【原文】
齐、秦约攻楚，楚令景翠以六城赂齐，太子为质。昭雎谓景翠曰: “秦恐，且因景鲤、苏厉而效地于楚。公出地以取齐，鲤于厉且以收地取 秦，公事必败。公不如令王重赂景鲤、苏厉，使入秦。（秦）[齐]恐，必不 求地而合于楚。若齐不求，是公与约也。”
【今译】
齐国和秦国相约一起进攻楚国，楚王派景翠用六座城邑来贿赂齐 国，并且让太子到齐国做人质^昭雎对景翠说；“秦国担心齐国会跟楚 国联合，将要通过景鲤和苏厉进献土地给楚国.您献出土地来拉拢齐 国，景鲤和苏厉即将接受秦国土地来拉拢秦国，您的事情一定会失敗c 您不如让楚王给景鲤和苏厉准备重金，让他们出使秦国。齐国就会惊 恐，必定不会索要土地而且会跟楚国交好^如果齐国不索要土地，这就 是您促成了齐国和楚国的邦交."
The state of Qi and the state of Qin united with each other to attack the state of Chu. The king of Chu ordered Jing Cui to bribe Qi with six cities and also sent the crown prince to Qi as a hostage. Zhao Ju had a talk with Jing Cui and said, “Qin fears that Qi and Chu might build an alliance， so it will present some territory to Chu through Jing Li and Su Li. Now you are going to cede some land to Qi to buy it off. However，Jing Li and Su Li will accept the territory from Qin to win it over. Your efforts will definitely be in vain. Therefore, you?d better ask His Majesty to send Jing Li and Su Li on a diplomatic mission to Qin along with a huge amount of gold to establish strong ties there. Then Qi will be scared. Therefore Qi will not only dare not ask for land，but will also establish good relations with your state. If Qi doesn’t demand land，it means that it? s you that help Chu establish good ties with Qi. "
