长沙之难
The War in Changsha
【原文】
长沙之难，楚太子横为质于齐。楚王死，薛公归太子横，因与韩、魏 之兵，随而攻东国。太子惧。昭盖曰不若令屈署以新东国为和于齐， 以动秦。秦恐齐之败东国而令行于天下也，必将救我。”太子曰：“善。” 遽令屈暮以东国为和于齐。秦王闻之，惧，令（辛〉[芈]戎告楚曰毋与 齐东国！吾与子出兵矣。”
【今译】
长沙一战，楚国太子横到齐国做人质。楚王死了，薛公让太子横回 国，接着联合韩国和魏国的军队，随后进攻楚国东部地区，太子很恐惧。 昭盖说不如派屈署把东部地区献给齐国跟它讲和，用这来触动秦国。 秦国担心齐国占领了东部地区从而在天下发号施令，必定会营救我 们。”太子说广好立即命令屈署把东部地区献给齐国来讲和，秦王听 说了这件事，很担心，命令（辛）[芈]戎告诉楚国说不要把东部地区送 给齐国，我跟你们一同出兵。”
During the war in Changsha, Heng，thc crown prince of the state of Chu,was sent to the state of Qi as a hostage- The king of Chu died. The lord of Xue sent Heng back to Chu, Then the lord allied his forces with the states of Han and Wei to invade the eastern region of Chu. The crown prince was scared. Zhao Gai said? “WeM better send Qu Shu to present the eastern region to Qi to make peace with it. Thus we may irritate the state of Qin. Qin will fear that Qi might issue orders to other states in the world after taking over the eastern region. So its troops will come to our rescue.” The crown prince said, “Good idea. ” Immediately, he orderd Qu Shu to present the eastern region to Qi and to negotiate a ceasefire. When the king of Qin heard of this, he was frightened. He sent Mi Rong to inform Chu, “Don’t give Qi your eastern region! I will dispatch my troops to assist you in confronting Qi.”
