苏秦说李兑
Su Qin Consulted with Li Dui
【原文】
苏秦说李兑曰洛阳乘轩里苏秦，家贫亲老，无罢车驽马、桑轮蓬 箧，羸滕负书担棄，触尘埃，蒙霜露，越漳河，足重茧，日百而舍，造外阙， 愿见于前，口道天下之事。”李兑曰先生以鬼之言见我则可，若以人之 事，兑尽知之矣。”苏秦对曰臣固以鬼之言见君，非以人之言也。”李兑 见之。苏秦曰广今日臣之来也暮，后郭门，藉席无所得，寄宿人田中，傍有大丛。夜半，土梗与木梗斗曰：“汝不如我，我者乃土也。使我逢疾风 淋雨，坏沮，乃复归土。今汝非木之根，则木之枝耳。汝逢疾风淋雨，漂 人漳河，东流至海，泛滥无所止Z臣窃以为土梗胜也。今君杀主父而族 之，君之立于天下，危于累卵.君听臣计则生，不听臣计则死。”李兑曰， “先生就舍，明日复来见兑也.”苏秦出。
【今译】
苏秦游说李兑道,洛阳乘轩里的苏秦，家中贫穷，父母年迈，没有 破车、老马、桑枝做的车轮、蓬草编的筐子，只好打着绑腿，背着书，挑着 担子，风尘仆仆，历经霜露，渡过漳河，脚底磨起一层层老茧，步行一百 里才休息一下，来到了宫廷外，愿意上前拜见，说说天下大事. ”李兑说: “先生跟我说说关于兔的事情还可以，如果要说人世的事情，我全都知 道了 苏秦回答说广我本来就想凭着鬼故事拜见您，不想说关于人世 的事情。”李兑召见了他。苏秦说这天我到达这里已经是傍晚了，后面城郭的大门已经关闭。我想借张草席却没有借到，只好睡在田野里， 旁边有一个大丛々半夜里，一个土做的人与一个木头做的人争执起来， 泥人说：‘你不如我，我是用土做的。假如我遇到暴风或淋了雨，坏掉了，还是化作土,但您却不是用树根，而是用树枝做的。你遇到暴成或 者淋了雨，就会漂到津河里，向东被冲到大海里，会一直漂流而不能停 息下来/我私下认为土人占了上风。如今您杀死了主父并且诛灭了他 的宗族，您在天下的情势危如累卵。您听从我的建议就可以生存，不听 我的建议就只有死路一条,李兑说先生回到宾舍休息吧，明天再来 见我。”苏秦出来了。
Su Qin consulted with Li Dui and said, “I am Su Qin from Chengxuan Li of the city of Luoyang, My family is poor and my parents are very old. I don，t have even a broken carriage,an old horse,wheels made of mulberry branches or a straw container. Just wearing leg wrappings, carrying my books on my back and luggage on my shoulders. I have experienced the hardships of an arduous journey? crossed the Zhang River and arrived here, I stopped for a rest every hundred li although my feet were badly callused. Now I am outside the palace and hope to pay a visit to you to talk about world events with you face to face. ” Li Dui said, “If you tells me ghost stories，I will see you- If you want to tell me about human activities? I know about every single event in the history of the world.” Su Qin replied, “I did want to tell you some ghost stories and had no plan to discuss any human activities at all. ” Li Dui then agreed to see him, Su Qin said，Today when I arrived here, the back gate of the protective wall had already been closed. I wanted to borrow a mat but couldn’t find one. So I had to sleep in the fields and there was a huge bosk nearby. At midnight, an earth puppet and a wood puppet fighted eath other, and the former said, 6 You are not as fortunate as I am. I am made of earth. If there is a storm and I become soaked by the heavy rain and then am damaged,I will become earth again. As for you，you are not made of the root of any tree but are made of a branch. If you are caught in a storm, you will be washed into the Zhang River and then into the East Sea and float endlessly*，I personally thought that the earth puppet won. Now you have killed the sovereign of Zhao and exterminated his clan. You are in an extremely dangerous position in the world. If you take my advice，you may survive. If not, you will lose your life,” Li Dui said, “Please go back to your hotel now and come to see me tomorrow. ” Su Qin left.
【原文】
李兑舍人谓李兑曰臣窃观君与苏公谈也，其辩过君，其博过君。 君能听苏公之计乎？ ”李兑曰广不能。”舍人曰君即不能，愿君坚塞两 耳，无听其谈也,明日复见，终日谈而去。舍人出送苏君，苏秦谓舍人 曰昨日我谈粗而君动，今日精而君不动，何也？”舍人曰Z先生之计大而规髙，吾君不能用也。乃我请君塞两耳，无听谈者。虽然，先生明曰 复来，吾请资先生厚用.”明日来，（抵）[抵]掌而谈。李兑送苏秦明月之 珠、和氏之璧、黑貂之裘、黄金百镒。苏秦得以为用，西人于秦。
【今译】
李兑的家臣对李兑说我私下观察您跟苏先生的会谈，他比您能 言善辩，知识面比您广^您能听从苏先生的计策吗？”李兑说不能。” 家臣说假如您不能听从他的计策，希望您紧紧堵住两只耳朵，不要听 他的话。”第二天李兑又召见苏秦，谈了 一整天苏秦才离开。家臣出来 送苏秦，苏秦对他说昨天我说的话很粗疏，奉阳君却被触动了，今天 我的话很精当而他却没有被触动，怎么回事？”家臣说”先生的计策宏大而且设计精妙，我的主君不能采用啊。于是我请求主君堵住两只耳 朵，不要听您说的话。尽管如此，先生明天再来，我让他赞助您半厚的 费用广第二天，苏秦来了，谈得非常投机。李兑送给苏秦明月珠、和氏 璧、黑色貂皮大衣和一百镒黄金。苏秦得到这些资助，向西去往秦国。
Li Dui’s private officer told him, “I observed your talk with Mr Su secretly. He is both more sophisticated and knowledgeable than you. Are you going to take his advice?” Li Dui said，“No, I won’t. ” The officer said, “If you won，t take his advice, I hope that you plug up your ears and don’t listen to even one word of him. ” The next day，Su Qin met Li Dui again. They talked for a whole day and then Su Qin left. The officer went out to see him off. Su Qin told him, “Yesterday my speech didn’t reach any depth, but Lord Fengyang was impressed. Today I talked about something deep and important, but he was not impressed with my words. Why?” The officer said，“Your plan is too ambitious for my master to take. So I asked my master to plug up his ears and not listen to you at all. Nonetheless，you can come again tomorrow. 1 will ask my master to present very generous gifts to support you. ” Su Qin came the next day and had an amicable talk with Li Dui, Li Dui bestowed on Su Qin the Bright Moon Pearl，the Jade of the He’s, a coat made of black marten and one hundred yi of gold. With these valuables，Su Qin travelled westwards and entered the state of Qin.
