Someone Had a Talk with Prime Minister Pi
【原文】
或谓皮相国曰魏杀吕辽而卫兵，亡其北阳而梁危，河间封不定而 (齐）[赵]危，文信不得志，三晋倍之忧也。今魏耻未灭，赵患又起，文倩侯之忧大矣。齐不从，三晋之心疑矣。忧大者不计而构，心疑者事秦急。秦魏之构，不待割而成。秦从楚魏攻齐，独吞赵，齐、赵必俱亡矣。”
【今译】
有人对皮相国说魏国杀死吕辽，而后卫国受到入侵，丧失了北 阳，而后魏国都城大梁陷入危机，河间的封地没有确定而赵国陷入危 机，文信侯不得志，韩国、赵国和魏国很担心此事。如今魏国蒙受的耻 辱还没有昭雪，赵国又受到入侵的威胁，文信侯的忧虑相当严重了。齐 国不跟山东各国联合，韩国、赵国和魏国就会对它起疑心。有很大忧虑 的不等到合计好就会请求讲和，心中怀有疑虑的会急于侍奉秦国。秦国和魏国的和解，不需要割让土地就已经谈妥了。秦国让楚爭和魏国进攻齐国，独自吞并赵国，齐国和赵国都定会灭亡了
Someone had a talk with Prime Minister Pi and said， “After the state of Wei I sentenced Lti Liao to death，the state of Wei H was invaded. After Wei I lost Beiyang, the capital of Liang was in danger. While the area of Hejian has not been conferred on anyone as a fief, the state of Zhao is under threat. Marquis Wenxin cannot fulfill his wishes, which is worrisome to the states of Han，Zhao and Wei. Now while the humiliation suffered by the state of Wei has not been avenged, the state of Zhao is under attack again. Therefore Marquis Wenxin is in severe trouble. If the state of Qi refuses to unite with those states located east of Mount Xiao, Han, Zhao and Wei will doubt its sincerity. States in severe trouble will be likely to make peace with their enemies before they are well prepared to negotiate. States not confident in themselves will submit to the state of Qin in a hurry. Zhao has made peace with Qin before it cedes land to Qin. If Qin unite with Chu and Wei to attack Qi, and annexes Zhao by itself, both Qi and Zhao will be ruined."
