Zhao Sent Qiu Hao to Qin
【原文】
赵使(机）[仇]郝之秦，请相魏冉。宋突谓（机）[仇]郝曰：“秦不听， 楼缓必怨公公不若阴辞楼子曰…请无急秦王。”秦王见赵之相魏冉之 不急也，且不听公言也，是事而不成，魏冉固德公矣。”
【今译】
赵国派（机）[仇]郝到秦国去，为魏冉请求相国一职。宋突对（机) [仇]郝说如果秦国不听从，楼缓必定会怨恨您。您不如暗地里告诉 楼缓说：‘为了你的原因，我不会催促秦王。’秦王发觉赵国不急于让魏 冉当上相国，就不会听从您的建议。这样即便事情不会成功，魏冉仍然 会感激您的。”
The state of Zhao sent Qiu Hao to the state of Qin to ask Qin’s king to appoint Wei Ran as prime minister of Qin. Song Tu had a talk with Qiu Hao and said, “If the state of Qin doesn’t take your advice, Lou Huan (referring to the then prime minister of the state of Qin) will definitely be very-bitter towards you. You' d better secretly tell Lou Huan, ‘For your sake,I won’t push the king of Qin to appoint Wei Ran to be the new prime minister.' When the king of Qin realizes that the state of Zhao won’t coerce him into assigning Wei Ran as the new prime minister urgently, he will be likely to ignore your suggestion. Thus your plan will be in vain. But Wei Ran will still be grateful to you anyway. ”
