齐破燕赵欲存之
Qi Destroyed Yan and Zhao Wanted to Re-establish Yan
【原文】
齐破燕，赵欲存之。乐毅谓赵王曰：“今无约而攻齐，齐必仇赵。不国亲也。以河东之地强齐，以燕以赵辅之，天下憎之，必皆事王以伐齐。 是因天下以破齐也王曰：“善。”乃以河东易齐，楚、魏憎之，令淖滑、惠 施之赵，请伐齐而存燕。
【今译】
齐国军队攻破了燕国，赵国想保全燕国。乐毅对赵王说：“如今没 有联合别的国家而独自进攻齐国，齐国一定会仇恨赵国。不如请求用 河东地区跟齐国交换它从燕国夺取的土地。赵国占有河北，齐国占据 河东，燕国和赵国必定不会陷入争端了 D这样一来，它们就会亙相亲 近。用河东的土地来壮大齐国，又有燕国和赵国辅助它，天下各国就会 憎恨齐国，必定都会侍奉大王并且讨伐齐国。这样就可以借助天下各 国来攻破齐国。”赵王说好。”于是用河东的土地跟齐国交换。楚国和 魏国憎恨齐国，楚国派淖滑、魏国派出惠施到赵国，请求进攻齐国并保 全燕国。
The troops of the state of Qi destroyed the state of Yan. The state of Zhao wanted to re-establish the state of Yan. Yue Yi had a talk with the king of the state of Zhao and said， “Now if you don’t unite with other states but launch an attack on the state of Qi alone, Qi will be very hostile towards you. It would be better if you trade our land east of the Yellow River for the territory taken by Qi from Yan‘ Thus Zhao can secure the region north of the Yellow River， and Qi can own the area east of it. Therefore, Yan and Qi can avoid further conflicts. So these two states can maintain good relations with each other. The state of Qi will be strengthened by the region east of the Yellow River as well as supported by the state of Yan and the state of Zhao. As a result, other states of the world will become hostile towards it. So they will all submit to you and will also unite with you to attack Qi. Hence, aided by the might of other states in the world, you can defeat Qi. ” The king said, “Very good. ” So he trade the land east of the Yellow River for the territory seized from Yan by the state of Qi, The states of Chu and Wei disliked this. So they sent Zhuo Chi and Hui Shi to the state of Zhao to invite Zhao to join them in attacking Qi and re establishing Yan.
