Wei Wanted to Unite with Qin Through Fu Ding
【原文】
魏因富丁且合于秦，赵恐，请效地于魏而听薛公.教子欸谓李兑曰：“赵畏横之合也，故欲效地于魏而听薛公。公不如令主父以地资周 (最）[匿]，而请相之于魏。周（最）[展]以天下辱秦者也，今相魏，魏、秦 必虚矣。齐1魏虽劲，无秦不能伤赵。魏（王）[不]听，是轻齐也。秦、魏 虽劲，无齐不能得赵,此利于赵而便于周（最）[頭]也。”
【今译】
魏国通过富丁想要跟秦国结盟，赵国很恐慌，请求进献土地给魏国并且听从薛公吩咐。有人让子款对李兑说赵国害怕连横成功，所以 想进献土地给魏国并且听从薛公吩咐。您不如让主父用一些土地来资 助周（最）[联]，并且为他请求魏国相国一职。周（最）[敢]是凭借天下 各国跟秦国为敌的人，如果他做了魏国的相国，魏国和秦国的关系一定 会恶化。齐国和魏国虽然强大，不跟秦国联合起来就不能危害赵国。 魏王如果不同意任用阄（最）[瑕]为相国，就是轻视齐国。秦国和魏国 虽然强大，不跟齐国联合起来就不能占有赵国。这对赵国有利，而且对 周（最）[嚴]也有好处.”
The state of Wei wanted to unite with the state of Qin through Fu Ding. The state of Zhao was frightened, so it offered to cede some land to Wei and follow the orders of the lord of Xue. Someone from Zhao asked Zi Kai to extend a message to Li Dui as follows： “The state of Zhao fears that Qin and Wei might build an alliance with each other, so it is about to cede some land to Wei and follow the orders of the lord of Xue, You’d better ask the sovereign to provide some land to Zhou Ju to support him, as well as ask for the position of prime minister of Wei for him. Zhou Ju is the one who leads all the states of the world to confront the state of Qin. Now if he is appointed to be prime minister of the state of Wei，the relationship between Qin and Wei will worsen. Although the state of Qi and the state of Wei are powerful and strong，they cannot damage the state of Zhao without the help of the state of Qin. If the king of Wei agrees to appoint Zhou Ju to be prime minister of his state，it shows that he is not attaching importance to the state of Qi. Although the state of Qin and the state of Wei are powerful and strong, they cannot take over the state of Zhao without the help of the state of Qi. By doing so, the state of Zhao will benefit and it will also be advantageous to Zhou Ju. ”
