魏使人因平原君请从于赵
Wei Sent Someone to Seek the Chance of Uniting with Zhao Through Lord Pingyuan
【原文】
魏使人因平原君请从于赵。三言之，赵王不听。出遇虞卿，曰为人必语从。”虞卿人，王曰广今者平原君为魏请从，寡人不听.其于子何 如？”虞卿曰魏过矣。”王曰然，故寡人不听。”虞卿曰王亦过矣 王曰何也？”曰凡强弱之举事，强受其利，弱受其害。今魏求从而王 不听，是魏求害而王辞利也。臣故曰：‘魏过，王亦过矣。’”
【今译】
魏国派人通过乎原君请求跟赵国结为联盟，平原君三次进言，赵王都不听从。平原君出来的时候遇到虞卿，对他说广如果进宫，一定要提 跟赵国联合的事情。”虞卿进入宫中，赵王说今天平原君替魏国请求 跟我们联合，我没有听他的，你认为这事怎么样？”虞卿说广魏国做错 了。”赵王说就是嘛，所以我不听他的。”虞卿说大王也错了,赵王 说广为什么？”虞卿说：“但凡强国和弱国共事，强国会受益，弱国会受 害，如今魏国请求跟我们联合而大王不听，这就是魏国追求害处而大 王推辞好处啊。所以我说：‘魏国错了，大王也错了。”’
The state of Wei sent an emissary to the state of Zhao to seek the chance of building an alliance with it with the help of Lord Pingyuan. Lord Pingyuan persuaded the king of Zhao three times，but the king wouldn’t listen to him. When Lord Pingyuan went out, he met Yu Qing and told him，“If you enter the palace, be sure to mention allying with the state of Wei to the king, ” Yu Qing entered the palace. The king said, :” Today Lord Pingyuan suggest I build an alliance with the state of Wei. But I didn’t take his advice. What do you think?” Yu Qing said, “The state of Wei is wrong,” The king said，“Is it? Then I won’t take his advice. ” Yu Qing said, “Your Majesty is also wrong, ” The king asked，“Why?” Yu Qing said，“If a strong state and a weak state work together， the strong one can benefit from the cooperation and the weak one will bear the disadvantages. Now the state of Wei begged to unite with us but you rejected it. In this case，Wei is seeking disadvantages and Your Majesty is rejecting benefit. So I said that Wei is wrong, and Your Majesty is also wrong.”
