平原君谓平阳君
Lord Pingyuan Had a Talk with Lord Pingyang
【原文】
平原君谓平阳君曰广公子牟游于秦，且东，而辞应侯。应侯‘公 子将行矣，独无以教之乎？’曰：‘且微君之命命之也，臣固且有效于君:夫贵不与富期，而富至；富不与粱肉期，而粱肉至；粱肉不与骄奢期，而 骄奢至；骄奢不与死亡期，而死亡至。累世以前，坐此者多矣夕应侯曰： ‘公子之所以教之者厚矣。’仆得闻此，不忘于心。愿君之亦勿忘也。”平 阳君曰敬诺。”
【今译】
平原君对平阳君说公子牟到秦国游历，即将向东返回魏国时向应侯辞别。应侯说：‘您就要离开了，难道没有什么要教导我的吗？’公子牟说：‘即使您不命令我这么做，我也想向您进言几句：尊责不跟财富相 约，财富也会不期而至；财富不跟美味相约，美味也会不期而至；美味不 跟骄奢相约，骄奢也会不期而至；骄奢不跟死亡相约，死亡也会不期而 至。几代以前，犯下这种罪过的人多着呢。’应侯说：‘您所賜教于我的 太重要了。’我得以听到这件事，一直记在心里。希望您也别忘记了。” 平阳君说：“遵命。”
Lord Pingyuan had a talk with Lord Pingyang, and said， “Once Childe Mou travelled around the state of Qin. When he was about to head for the east to return to his state—Wei, he went to say good-bye to Marquis Ying. Marquis Ying said, “Now you are going to leave，do you have any instructions for me?? Childe Mou said, ‘ Even if you did not ask me，I did think of telling you something. Power doesn’t invite wealth, but wealth arrives on its own when one gains power. Wealth doesn’t invite delicacies, but delicacies arrive on their own when one obtains wealth. Delicacies don ’ t invite extravagance，but extravagance arrives on its own when one is addicted to delicacies. Extravagance doesn’t invite death, but death arrives on it's own when one leads an extravagant life. Several generations ago，many people suffered from this. ’ Marquis Ying said， ‘ Your instructions are very important.'After I heard this, I lay it to heart at all times, I hope that you will bear it in mind as well. ” Lord Pingyang said, “Of course I will. ”
