冯忌请见赵王
Feng Ji Asked for Permission to Meet Zhao's King
【原文】
冯忌请见赵王，行人见之。冯忌接手免首，欲言而不敢。王问其 故，对曰：“客有见人于服子者，已而请其罪。服子曰：‘公之客独有三罪：望我而笑，是狎也；谈语而不称师，是倍也；交浅而言深，是乱也。’客 曰：‘不然。夫望人而笑，是和也；言而不师称，是庸说也；交浅而言深， 是忠也。昔者尧见舜于草茅之中，席陇亩而荫庇桑，阴移而授天下传; 伊尹负鼎俎而干汤，姓名未著而受三公。使夫交浅者不可以深谈，则天 下不传而三公不得也.”赵王曰：“甚善广冯忌曰今外臣交浅而欲深 谈，可乎？ ”王请奉教。”于是冯忌乃谈。
【今译】
冯忌请求谒见赵王，负责接待宾客的官员把他引见给赵王。冯忌 拱手低头，想说什么但又不敢说。赵王问他是什么原因，他回答说：“有 个门客把一个人引见给宓子践。过了 一会儿，他请示客人有什么过错。宓子说…您的客人只有三种过错：看到我就笑，这是轻视我；引用一些 话的时候却不报师门，这是背叛；交情浅但是交谈的内容却很深，这是 迷惑我。"门客说,不是这样的。看着别人笑，这是温和；说话时不报师 门，这是平常的言谈；交情浅而交谈的内容深，这是忠诚.从前免在野 外见到舜，坐在田地里的桑树底下，不久就把天下传给了舜。伊尹背着 锅和案板去见汤，连姓名都没有弄清楚就被授予三公的爵位。假如交 情浅的人不可以进行深刻的交谈，那尧就不会把天下传给舜，伊尹也不 能做三公。’”赵王说：“很好冯忌说：“如今从另一个国家来的我跟您 交情浅却想深谈，可以吗？”赵王说广请踢教。”于是冯忌就说了自己的 观点。

Firstly，he looked directly into my eyes and smiled at me. This is irreverence. Secondly, when he quoted something, he didn’t mention his teacher. This is treachery. Thirdly? we are not close to each other, but his talk reached a depth. This is confusion. ’ The man said, ‘No, it is not like what you said. Looking directly into another person's eyes and smiling at him is clemency. He didn’t mention the name of his teacher because he didn’t quote anything special. Although you are not close to each other，his talk reached a depth. This shows his loyalty. Previously，Yao went to see Shun in the wild. They just sat in the fields，under a mulberry tree. Then Yao devolved the world on Shun on the spot. Carrying a pot and a chopping block on his back，Yi Yin went to see Tang, Tang assigned him the highest rank without asking his name. Suppose people not close to each other didn’t exchange their deeply held views, Shun wouldn’t have accepted the world, and Yi Yin wouldn ’ t have been appointed to one of the highest positions. ”The king of Zhao said，“Very reasonable. ” Feng Ji said, “As a foreigner, I am not close to you but want to talk seriously with you. May I do this?” The king said, “I'd like to hear your instructions, ” So Feng Ji started talking.
