【原文】
齐欲攻宋，秦令起贾禁之。齐乃梂赵以伐宋。秦王怒，属怨于赵。 李兑约五国以伐秦，无功，留天下之兵于成皋，而阴构于秦。又欲与秦攻魏，以解其怨而取封焉。魏王不说。[苏秦]之齐，谓齐王曰臣为足下谓魏王曰：‘三晋皆 有秦患。今之攻秦也，为赵也。五国伐赵，赵必亡矣。秦逐李兑，李兑 必死。今之伐秦也，以救李子之死也。今赵留天下之甲于成皋，而阴鬻 之于秦，已讲，则令秦攻魏以成其私封，王之事赵也何得矣？且王尝济 于漳而身朝于邯郸，抱阴成，负（蒿）葛薜[孽]，以为赵蔽，而赵无为王行 也.今又以何阳、姑密封其子，而乃令秦攻王，以便取阴。人比然而后 如贤不，如王若用所以事赵之半收齐，天下有敢谋王者乎？王之事齐也，无人朝之辱，无割地之费。齐为王之故，虚国于燕、赵之前，用兵于 二千里之外，故攻城野战，未尝不为王先被矢石也。得二都，割河东，尽 效之于王。自是之后，秦攻魏，齐甲未尝不岁至于王之境也。请问王之 所以报齐者可乎？韩哏处于赵，去齐三千里，王以此疑齐，曰有秦阴。 今王又挟故薛公以为相，善韩徐以为上交，尊虞商以为大客，王固可以 反疑齐乎于？魏王听此言也甚诎，其欲事王也甚循。（其）[甚]怨于赵。 臣愿王之（曰）[日]闻魏而无庸见恶也，臣请为王推其怨于赵。愿王之 阴重赵，而无使秦之见王之重赵也。秦见之且亦重赵。齐、秦交重赵，臣必见燕与韩、魏亦且重赵也，皆且无敢与赵治。五国事赵，赵从亲以 合于秦，必为王高矣。臣故欲王之偏劫天下而皆私甘之也，王使臣以 韩、魏与燕劫赵，使丹也甘之；以赵劫韩、魏，使臣也甘之；以三晋劫秦, 使顺也甘之；以天下劫楚，使哏也甘之。则天下皆倡秦以事王，而不敢 相私也。交定，然后王择焉
【今译】
齐国想进攻宋国，秦国让起贾去制止这件事。于是齐国拉拢赵国 来攻打宋国。秦王生气了，琅赵国结怨。李兑联合韩、赵、魏、燕、齐五 个国家一起攻打秦国.没有取胜，让这几个国家的联军驻扎在成本，并暗中跟秦国讲和。又打算跟秦国一起进攻魏国，来缓解秦国的怨恨并 且为自己争取封地.魏王很不高兴。苏秦来到齐国，对齐王说我替您对魏王说：‘韩 国、赵国和魏国都面临着秦国的威胁.目前进攻秦国是为了赵国。如 果五个国家一同进攻赵国，赵国必定会灭亡。如果秦国驱逐李兑，李兑 必死无疑^如今进攻秦国，是为了将李兑从死亡的威胁下解救出来。 如今赵国将夭下各国的军队驻扎在成皋，却暗中把他们出卖给了秦国， 讲和后，李兑就让秦国进攻魏国，来促成他私人的封地。大王侍奉赵国 又得到了什么呢？况且大王曾经渡过漳水，亲自到邯郸去朝拜赵王，把 阴成与葛孽割让给赵国，作为它的屏蔽，然而赵国却没有为大王做过什 么。如今又要把何阳和姑密封给李兑的儿子，而且还让秦国进攻大王， 以便夺取阴。把人进行比较，然后才能分辨出谁贤、谁不肖。如果大王 拿用来侍奉赵国的一半来结交齐国，天下还有谁敢图谋大王？大王侍奉齐国，不会有到赵国朝拜的屈辱，不会有割让土地的破费。齐国为了 大王的缘故，会派出全部军队逼近燕国和赵国，让军队在距离自己的国 家两千多里的地方开战，所以无论攻城还是野战，没有不为大王冒着敌 人的弓箭与兵器打前锋的.获得两座城邑，占领河东，都进献给大王。 从此以后，秦国进攻魏国，齐国没有一年不派兵到大王境内增援的。请 问大王有可以报答齐国的地方吗？韩哏在赵国的时候，离齐国三千里， 大王因此而怀疑齐国，说它跟秦国暗中勾结。如今大王又让从前的薛 公做相国，善待韩徐，把他作为最好的朋友，尊重虞商，把他视为责客， 大王还可以反过来怀疑齐国吗？’魏王听到这番话，一定会觉得理屈，他 就会非常顺从地侍奉大王，就会对赵国充满怨恨。我希望大王每天能 听听来自魏国的消息，而不要厌恶它，请让我为大王把魏国的怨恨转移 到赵国头上。希望大王暗地里多多结交赵国，但不要让秦国看出大王在大力地结交赵国。秦国发觉了也会大力地结交赵国.如果齐国和秦国都大力地结交赵国，我预见燕国跟韩国和魏国也将会大力地结交赵 国，那就都不敢跟赵国抗衡了。如果五个国家都侍奉赵国，赵国伙同它 们再跟秦国联合，那它的地位必定会高于大王了^所以我希望大王普 遍威胁天下各国，而后再分别秘密派人用甜言蜜语游说它们。大王派 我用韩国、魏国和国威胁赵国，再派丹用甜言蜜语游说它；用赵国威 胁韩国和魏国，派我用甜言蜜语游说它；用韩国、赵国和魏国威胁秦国， 派顺用甜言蜜语游说它；用天下各国威胁楚国，派哏用甜言蜜语游说 它。那天下各国都会威逼秦国并且侍奉大王，还不敢互相谋私。跟它 们的交情确立了以后，大王再作选择

Hence，whether assaulting enemy cities or fighting in the open，the troops of Qi would always risk their lives to fight in the van for Your Majesty. After seizing two cities and taking over the area east of the Yellow River，they presented all of them to you. Ever since then，Qi has sent troops to defend your state every year. But what have you done for Qi in return? When Han Min was in the state of Zhao, he was three thousand Li away from Qi. However, Your Majesty was sceptical about Qi because of this and also declared that Qi had united secretly with the state of Qin, At present, you have appointed the former lord of Xue to be prime minister of your state. When the king of Wei hears these words, he will feel sorry. As a result, he will serve Your Majesty humbly. Then he will be bitter towards the state of Zhao. I hope that Your Majesty can listen to the news from the state of Wei every day and do not feel displeased by it. Please let me shift the state of Wei7 s hatred onto the state of Zhao for you, I hope that Your Majesty can secretly establish good relations with Zhao, but do not let the state of Qin know. If Qin realizes that you
are trying to establish good relations with Zhao, it will imitate you. If both Qi and Zhao establish good relations with Zhao, I can surely foresee that the states of Yan, Han and Wei will also try to do their best to win over Zhao. Thus none of them will dare confront Zhao. If all these five states plan to win over Zhao，Zhao will build an alliance with them as well as the state of Qin, Thus Zhao’s king will definitely become more powerful and influential than Your Majesty, So，I hope that Your Majesty can pose a threat to all other states of the world and then send somebody to flatter each of them. You can order me to ally with Han, Wei and Yan to threaten Zhao, then ask Dan to persuade Zhao with blandishments. Use Zhao to threaten Han and Wei，then send me to persuade the latter with blandishments. Manipulate Han，Zhao and Wei to threaten Qin, then send Shun to persuade Qin with blandishments. Ally with all other states of the world to threaten the state of Chu, then send Min to persuade Chu with blandishments.As a result T ail the other states of the world will threaten Qin and serve you. And they won’t dare take advantage of you. After you establish good relations with them，you can make your own decision in choosing your allies.”
