乐羊为魏将而攻中山
Yue Yang served as Commander-in-Chief of Wei Attack Zhongshan
【原文】
乐羊为魏将而攻中山。其子在中山，中山之君烹其子而遗之羹，乐羊坐于幕下而啜之，尽一杯。文侯谓睹师赞曰乐羊以我之故，食其子 之肉。”赞对曰广其子之肉尚食之，其谁不食！”乐羊既罢中山，文侯赏其 功而疑其心。
【今译】
乐羊做魏国的将领，攻打中山国。他的儿子在中山，中山国的君主 把他的儿子煮了，并且送给他一些带汁水的肉。乐羊坐在帐幕下，把一整杯都吃光了。魏文侯对睹师赞说乐羊因为我的缘故而吃了他儿子 的肉睹师赞回答说他儿子的肉还能吃得下，还有谁的肉不能吃！” 乐羊攻打中山回来，魏文侯奖赏他的功劳，却怀疑他的忠心。
Yue Yang served as Commander-in-Chief of the state of Wei during the war against the state of Zhongshan. His son was in Zhongshan. The sovereign of Zhongshan cooked his son alive and gave Yue Yang some meat broth made from his son's flesh. Yue Yang sat down beside his tent and finished a whole bowl of it. Marquis Wen of Wei told Dushi Zan, “Look，Yue Yang ate the meat of his own son for my sake, ” Dushi Zan said，“Well，if he eats the meat of his own son, who else’s meat will he refuse?” After Yue Yang returned from Zhongshan, Marquis Wen rewarded him due to his great contributions, but was sceptical about his loyalty.
