Chu Promised to Cede Six Cities to Wei I
【原文】
楚许魏六城，与之伐齐而存燕。张仪欲败之，谓魏王曰广齐畏三国 之合也，必反燕地以下楚，楚、赵必听之，而不与魏六城。是王失谋于楚、赵，而树怨而于齐、秦也。齐遂伐赵，取乘丘，收侵地，虚、顿丘危。 楚破南阳、九夷，内沛，许、鄢陵危。王之所得者新观也，而道涂宋、卫为 制，事败为赵驱，事成功县宋、卫。”魏王弗听也。
【今译】
楚国许诺送给魏国六座城邑，跟它一起攻打齐国，从而保全燕国。 张仪想敗坏这件事，对魏王说：“齐国害怕楚、赵、魏三国会联合起来，就 一定会归还从燕国侵占的土地来向楚国屈服，楚国和赵国就一定会听从齐国，而不把六座城邑给魏国。这样一来，大王的谋略就会在楚国和赵国落空，而且会跟齐国和秦国结怨，于是齐国会进攻起国，占领乘 丘，收复被赵国侵占的土地，虚和顿丘就危险了。楚军会攻破南阳、九 夷，进入沛地，许和鄢陵就危险了。大王所得到的是新观，而且要途经 宋国和卫国。事情失敗了，就会被赵国操纵；事情成功了，也要取决于 宋国和卫国。”魏王没有听从。
In order to unite with the state of Wei T to attack the state of Qi as well as re-establish the state of Yan, the state of Chu promised to cede six cities to Wei. Zhang Yi planned to thwart this plan，so he had a talk with the king of Wei T and said, “The state of Qi fears that Chu, Zhao and Wei may build an alliance，so it will definitely return the land taken from Yan and submit to Chu, If this is the case, Chu and Zhao will certainly take Qi’s advice，and therefore, Chu will refuse to cede those six cities to us. Thus not only will your plans not be carried out by Chu and Zhao，but you will also be at enmity with Qi and Qin. As a result, Qi will invade Zhao to seize Chengqiu and reoccupy its former territory taken over by Zhao. Accordingly，Xu and Dunqiu will be in danger. Chu will conquer Nanyang and Jiuyi and enter the region of Pei, Accordingly, Xu and Yanling will be in danger. The place you may obtain is Xinguan. However, in order to reach it，you must cross the territory of Song and Wei II. If you fail to obtain that place，the state of Zhao will take control over you. Even if you succeed，whether or not can really control this area is still dependent on the attitude of Song and Wei II.” The king of Wei I didn’t take his advice.
