Zhang Yi Wanted to Make Trouble for Chen Zhen
【原文】
张仪欲穷陈轸，令魏王召而相之，来将悟之。将行，其子陈应止其 公之行，曰物之湛者，不可不察也。郑强出秦曰，应为知。夫魏欲绝楚、齐，必重迎公,郢中不善公者，欲公之去也，必劝王多公之车。公至 宋，道称疾而毋行，使人谓齐王曰：‘魏之所以迎我者，欲以绝齐、楚 也。，” 齐王曰子果无之魏而见寡人也，请封子。”因以鲁侯之车迎之。
【今译】
张仪想让陈轸陷入困境，让魏王召他来做相国，来到后就将把他囚 禁起来，陈轸将要出发，他的儿子陈应阻止自己父亲的行程，说事情 深不可測，不可以不明察。郑强从秦国来，说我是明智的。魏国想让楚国跟齐国断绝关系，定会隆重地迎接您。郢都中对您不好的人希望您 离开，必定会劝大王多让您带一些车子出使。您行经宋国的时候，在路 上声称生病不去了，派人对齐王说：‘魏国之所以让我去它那里，是想断 绝齐国和楚国的关系齐王说您果然不到魏国去而来见我，我会封赏您.”于是用鲁国国君的车子迎接他。
Zhang Yi wanted to make trouble for Chen Zhen, so he asked the king of the state of Wei to call for Chen Zhen under the excuse that the king was about to appoint Chen Zhen as prime minister. He planned to put Chen Zhen in prison when he arrived. When Chen Zhen was about to leave for Wei， Chen Ying，his son, stopped him and said, “Things are too complicated to predict. We should study them, Zheng Qiang once came here from the state of Qin and said that I was provident in this regard. The people of the state of Wei wants
to damage the relations between the state of Chu and the state of Qi，so they would welcome you. Those hostile towards you in the capital of Ying ( referring to the capital of the state of Chu) want to get rid of you. So they will persuade the king of Chu to present you with more carriages for this trip* After you arrive in the state of Song，you can pretend to be ill and therefore refuse to go further. Then you can send someone to present a message to the king of the state of Qi as follows： ‘The reason why the state of Wei welcomes me lies in the fact that it wants to make Qi and Chu cut off ties with each other. ”，The king of Qi said，“As expected，you refused to go to Wei but came to see me instead- I will reward you. ” Then he welcomed Chen Zhen with the carriage of the sovereign of the state of Lu.
