田需贵于魏王
Tian Xu Was Appreciated by the King of Wei Very Much
【原文】
田需贵于魏王，惠子曰子必善左右。今夫杨，横树之则生，倒树 之则生，折而树之又生。然使十人树杨，一人拔之，则无生杨矣。故以 十人之众，树易生之物,然而不胜一人者，何也？树之难而去之易也。 今子虽自树于王，而欲去子者众，则子必危矣！”
【今译】
田需深受魏王完爱，惠施对他说你一定要善待大王身边的人。 就说种植杨树吧，横着栽它能活，倒着栽它能活，折下一个树枝栽上也 能活。然而假如让十个人种杨树、一个人拔树，就没有一棵杨树能生存 下来。因此让十个人栽培易于生长的东西，却抵不过一个人来毁坏它 们，为什么呢？因为种树艰难而拔树很容易。如今您虽然得到大王的 窆信，然而想除掉您的人却很多，那样您就会很危险了
Tian Xu was appreciated very much by the king of the state of Wei, Hui Shi told Tian, “Please make sure that you treat the people close to the king very well. Regarding the planting of aspen, if it is planted sidelong, it can grow. If it is planted upside down，it can grow. If one breaks a branch and plants it，it can also grow. Suppose there were ten people planting aspens, but one person was there uprooting the seedlings，none of the aspens would survive. Hence, if there were as many as ten people planting some seedlings which can easily survive，they couldn’t outdo one person engaging in uprooting them. Why? Because it is easy to uproot the seedlings but difficult to plant them. Now although you are trusted and cherished very much by His Majesty, there are many people intending to get rid of you. Thus you will definitely find yourself in danger, ”
