【原文】
田需死，昭鱼谓苏代曰田需死，吾恐张仪、薛公、犀首之有一人相 魏者代曰广然则相者以谁而君便之也？”昭鱼曰吾欲太子之自相也代曰：“请为君北见梁王，必相之矣昭鱼曰：“奈何？ ”代曰：“君其 为梁王，代请说君。”昭鱼曰广奈何？”对曰：“代也从楚来，昭鱼甚忧。代 曰：‘君長忧？’曰：“田需死，吾恐张仪、薛公、犀首有一人相魏者代曰: 4勿忧也。梁王长主也，必不相张仪。张仪相魏，必右秦而左魏；薛公相 魏，必右齐而左魏；犀首相魏，必右韩而左魏.梁王，长主也，必不使相 也Z代曰：‘莫如太子之自相，是三人皆以太子为非固相也，皆将务以 其国事魏，而欲丞相之玺。以魏之强，而持三万乘之国辅之，魏必安矣。故曰，不如太子之自相也。’”遂北见梁王，以此语告之，太子果自相。
【今译】
田需死了，昭鱼对苏代说：“田需死了，我担心张仪、薛公、公孙衍当 中会有一个人做魏国的相国。”苏代说那么谁做相国对您有利呢，昭鱼说我想让太子自己做相国。”苏代说广请让我为您北上谒见魏王, 一定让太子做相国昭鱼说：“怎么办？”苏代说广您扮演魏王，让我来 劝说您昭鱼说：“怎么？”苏代回答说我从楚国来，昭鱼非常忧虑，我 问他：‘您有什么忧心的事？’他说：‘田需死了，我担心张仪、薛公、公孙 衍中会有一个人做魏国的相国/我说：‘不必忧虑。魏王是贤明的君 主，一定不会任用张仪为相国。如果张仪做魏国相国，必定会把秦国看 得比魏国重要；薛公做魏国的相国，必定会把齐国看得比魏国重要；公 孙衍做魏国的相国，必定会把韩国看得比魏国重要e魏王是个贤明的 君主，一定不会任用他们做相国的我说广没有什么能比得上太子自 己做相国。这三人都认为太子不会一直担任相国，都将致力于用自己 的国家来侍奉魏国，而想得到丞相的印玺。凭着魏国的强大，又有三个拥有一万辆战车的国家辅佐它，魏国一定会安定了。所以说不如太子自己做相国于是北上谒见魏王，把这话告诉了他，太子果然亲自做 了相国

I asked him, ‘What worries you?7 He said，‘Tian Xu has died. I am afraid that either Zhang Yi，the lord of Xue or Gongsun Yan will be appointed to be the new prime minister of the state of Wei. I said: “Don’t worry. The king of Wei is a sensible sovereign. He certainly won’t appoint Zhang Yi to be the new prime minister- If Zhang Yi is appointed to be the new prime minister, he will definitely put the state of Qin ahead of the state of Wei* If the lord of Xue is appointed to this post, he will definitely put the state of Qi ahead of the state of Wei. If Gongsun Yan is appointed, he will definitely put the state of Han ahead of the state of Wei. The king of Wei is a sensible sovereign. Certainly he won，t appoint any of these people to be the new prime minister. ’ I continued，‘Nothing could be better than the crown prince taking this post himself. Now these three persons will all think that the crown prince won，t hold this position for good. So，in order to obtain this position, they will concentrate on leading their states to serve Wei. As powerful and strong as the state of Wei is, it will now be supported by three big states with ten thousand chariots each Wei ’ s security will surely be guaranteed. That’s why I said nothing could be better than the crown prince taking this position himself. ”，So Su Dai went to the north to meet the kingof Wei andtold him aboutthe situation. So the crownprincetookthe post himselfas expected.
