Wei Ying, the King of Wei, Invited Some Sovereigns for a Drink at Fantai
【原文】
梁王魏婴觞诸侯于范台。酒酣，请鲁君举鏑。鲁君兴，避席，择言 曰昔者，帝女令仪狄作酒而美，进之禹，禹饮而甘之，遂疏仪狄，绝旨 酒，曰：‘后世必有以酒亡其国者。’齐桓公夜半不嗛，易牙乃煎敖燔炙， 和调五味而进之，桓公食之而饱，至旦不觉，曰：‘后世必有以味亡其国者夕晋文公得南之威，三日不听朝，遂推南之威而远之，曰：“后世必有 以色亡其国者。’楚王登强台而望崩山，左江而右湖，以临彷徨，其乐忘 死，遂盟强台而弗登，曰：‘后世必有以高台陂池亡其国者。’今主君之 尊，仪狄之酒也；主君之味，易牙之调也；左白台而右闾须，南威之美也; 前夹林而后兰台，强台之乐也。有一于此，足以亡其国。今主君兼此四 者，可无戒与？ ”梁王称善相属.

When the banquet atmosphere reached its zenith, King Hui asked Duke Gong，the sovereign of the state of Lu，to propose a toast. Duke Gong stood up，left his seat and said deliberately. “Previously，Yi Di， daughter of God,brewed some luscious wine and presented it to Yu. Yu drank it and thought it was very good. So he estranged Yi Di and refused to drink any luscious wine from then on. He said，‘In later times, there will be some sovereigns leading their states to ruin because of their love for luscious wine.，Duke Huan of the state of Qi didn’t want to eat anything at midnight‘ Yi Ya concocted all kinds of flavours, made some very delicious food and presented it to the duke. Duke Huan enjoyed it and ate till he was full. Then he fell asleep and couldn’t get up the next morning. He said，‘In later times, there will be some sovereigns leading their states to ruin because of their love for delicious food, ’ After Duke Wen of the state of Jin obtained Nan Zhiwei，he didn’t hold court to manage government affairs for three days. Then he pushed Nan Zhiwei aside and estranged her. He said，‘In later times，there will be some sovereigns leading their states to ruin because of their love for beautiful women,’ Once the king of Chu mounted the Qiangtai Platform to view Mount Wu. He enjoyed the scenery of the Xiangjiang River on the left side and that of the Dongting Lake on the right side. He was so entranced with the beautiful scenery that he even left life or death in oblivion. Then he made a vow on the platform and promised that he would never mount it again. He said, ‘In later times, there must be some sovereigns leading their states to ruin because of their love for high platforms and huge ponds, Now the power of Your Majesty is somewhat the same as the luscious wine made by Yi Di. The case of Your Majesty is somewhat the same as the delicious food made by Yi Ya. You are accompanied by Bai Tai on the left side and Lu Xu on the right- They are somewhat the same as the pretty Nan Zhiwei, You also have Jialin in the front and Lantai at the rear. They are somewhat the same as the Qiangtai Platform. Among these aforementioned four factors, if you possess any one of them, you will lose your state.
