Qi Was About to Attack Wei
【原文】
齐欲伐魏，魏使人谓淳于髡曰齐欲伐魏，能解魏患唯先生也。敝 邑有宝璧二双，文马二驷，请致之先生。”淳于髡曰：“诺。”人说齐王曰: “楚，齐之仇敌也;魏，齐之与国也。夫伐与国，使仇敌制其余敝，名丑而实危，为王弗取也。”齐王曰善。”乃不伐魏。
【今译】
齐国准备进攻魏国，魏国派人对淳于髡说齐国想进攻魏国，只有 先生您能替魏国解围B郵国有两对珍责的美玉、两匹有文采的马，请献 给先生。”淳于髡说好的^ ”进宫劝说齐王道楚国是齐国的敌国，楚国是齐国的盟国。进攻盟国，让敌国控制我们疲惫不堪的军队，名声难有位客人对齐王说：“淳于髡说不进攻魏国，是因为接受了魏国的 美玉和宝马的缘故。”齐王对淳于髡说广听说先生接受了魏国的玉和 马，有这么回事吗？”淳于髡说广有这回事既然如此，那您是怎么为 我打算的？ ”淳于髡说如果进攻魏国对齐国有利，即使魏国派人刺杀 我，对大王又有什么好处呢？假如真的不利，魏国即使封赏我，对大王 又有什么损害呢？况且大王不招致攻打盟国的非议，魏国没有被消灭 的危险，百姓不用遭受战争的灾祸，我得到了美玉和宝马，对大王有什 么损害呢？”
The troops of the state of Qi were about to attack the state of Wei. By attacking our ally and offering our enemy state a chance to take advantage of our exhausted (due to the military action against Wei)troops, not only will we become notorious, but our state will also be endangered. I don^t think you should do that. ” The king of Qi said, “I see. ” So he gave up the plan of attacking Wei,

客谓齐王曰广淳于髡言不伐魏者，受魏之璧、马也。”王以谓淳于髡 曰闻先生受魏之璧、马，有诸? ”曰有之。”“然则先生之为寡人计之, 何如？”淳于髡曰：“伐魏之事不便，魏虽刺髡，于王何益？若诚不便，魏 虽封髡，于王何损？且夫王无伐与国之诽，魏无见亡之危，百姓无被兵 之患，髡有璧、马之宝，于王何伤乎？”
【今译】
听而且实情危险，我认为大王这么做是不可取的。”齐王说广好。”于是 没有进攻魏国。

Moreover， you can avoid the notorious reputation of attacking an ally， Wei will avoid being defeated^ the people of Wei will avoid suffering from the problems caused by war, and I can obtain jade and horses. Does this do any harm to you?”
