Qin and Zhao Engaged in a War
【原文】
秦、赵构难而战。谓魏王曰不如齐赵而构之秦。王不构赵，赵不 以毁构矣；而构之秦，赵必复斗，必重魏。是并制秦、赵之事也。王欲焉 而收齐、赵攻荆，欲焉而收荆、赵攻齐，欲王之东长之待之也广
【今译】
秦国和赵国交战.有人对魏王说广不如帮助赵国跟秦国决战。大 王如果不帮助赵国，赵国就不会用已经被挫敗的军队跟秦军交战了 ；而 如果帮助它对抗秦国，赵军一定会重新投入战斗，必定会重视魏国，这 样一来，就同时控制住了秦国和赵国的战事。大王或者是想跟齐国和 赵国联合起来进攻楚国，或者是想跟楚国和赵国联合起来进攻齐国，大王就等着做山东各国的领袖吧。
The troops of the state of Qin and those of the state of Zhao engaged in a war against each other. Someone had a talk with the king of Wei and said, “ You’d better help Zhao confront Qin. If you do not help Zhao, Zhao will no longer fight the troops of Qin with only the remnants of its army. If you help Zhao confront Qin，the troops of Zhao will definitely launch attacks on Qin again. Therefore, Zhao will attach importance to your state. Thus you can manipulate warfare between Zhao and Qin. You can either persuade both the state of Qi and the state of Zhao to attack the state of Chu, or win over both the state of Chu and the state of Zhao to attack the state of Qi, Then you can await becoming the leader of all those states located east of Mount Xiao.”
