Lou Wu Built an Alliance Between Qin and Wei
【原文】
楼梧约秦、魏，将令秦王遇于境3胃魏王曰广遇而无相，秦必置相。不听（之），则交恶于秦；听之，则后王之臣，将皆务事诸侯之能令于王之 上者。且遇于秦而相[有]秦者，是无齐也，秦必轻王之强矣。有齐者不 若相之，齐必喜。是以有雍者与秦遇，秦必重王矣
【今译】
楼梧撮合秦国跟魏国会盟，要安排魏王和秦王在边境上会晤。他对魏王说广如果不设立相国就跟秦王会晤，秦王就一定会安排人来做 我们的相国。如果不听他的，跟秦国的关系就会恶化；如果听他的，以 后大王的大臣就都将致力于侍奉能对大王发号施令的国家的君主了。 而且跟秦王会晤并任用秦王推荐的人做相国，就会断绝我们跟齐国的 关系，秦国一定会轻视大王的实力了。保持跟齐国的关系的最好办法 就是任用大臣中能争取到齐国的人做相国，齐国一定会很高兴。争取 到齐国的支持后再跟秦王会晤，秦国一定会重视大王的。”
Lou Wu built an alliance between the state of Qin and the state of Wei and arranged for the sovereigns of these two states to meet each other on the border. He conferred with the king of Wei and said，“If you meet the king of Qin before appointing someone to be prime minister of our state, the king of Qin will definitely recommend someone to you to be our prime minister* If you don’t carry out his order，our relationship with Qin will deteriorate. If you do carry out his order, from then on，all your high-ranking court officials will focus on hobnobbing with those sovereigns who issue orders to you. Moreover, if you meet the king of Qin and appoint the one recommended by him as our prime minister the state of Qi will cut off its ties with us. As a result, the state of Qin will disregard your might. Nothing could be better than appointing a prime minister who can win over the state of Qi. Thus the state of Qi will be happy with us. If we win over the state of Qi，the king of Qin will attach much importance to you when you meet him,”
