Guan Bi Ordered Zhai Qiang to Go to Qin on a Diplomatic Mission
管鼻之令翟强与秦事
Guan Bi ordered Zhai Qiang to go to the state of Qin on a diplomatic mission. He had a talk with the king of the state of Wei and said, “The relationship between Zhai Qiang and me is similar to that between a person from the state of Jin and a person from the state of Chu. The person from Jin realized that the person from Chu was quick-tempered, so he carried his sword and walked very slowly on purpose. The person from Chu hated this slowness, so he urged him to move more quickly. If I go to stay in a hotel in the state of Qin，it will not have enough rooms to lodge my attendants. If Zhai Qiang goes there，he won’t have a place to stay, Zhai Qiang is your very powerful and influential high-ranking court official，but he will be treated very badly by the state of Qin. How can it treat him that way?”
【原文】
管鼻之令翟强与秦事，谓魏王曰彝之与强，犹晋人之与楚人也。晋人见楚人之急，带剑而缓之，楚人恶其缓而急之。令鼻之入秦之传 舍，舍不足以舍之。强之入，无蔽于秦者强，王贵臣也，而秦若此其 甚，安可？”
【今译】
管鼻让翟强出使秦国，对魏王说：“我跟翟强，犹如晋国人‘楚国人一样.晋国人看见楚国人性子急，佩戴着剑慢慢走，楚国人讨厌他大 慢，就催促他。假如我到了秦国的宾馆，宾馆安置不下我的人马。拔强 去了，在秦国连个安身的地方也没有了。翟强是大王显责的大臣，而秦 国这么过分地对待他，怎么可以呢？”
